Default Subaru signing there own death warrant

Hey guys, im a long time browser, newly registered. After seeing some posts on the New Impreza Hatchback, i was disgusted to find:
http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/354/C7605/
That seems to be a real picture of the car doing test runs. Subaru is so getting it wrong if they release that washing machine on wheels...NOOOO... I can say if this is what happens to Impreza's, Evos are the clear victors in 2008+. So so disappointed.

If I am not mistaken, it says that they are still going to offer 300hp STi's, so how is Evo is the victorious one of this battle?

But um... Yea that 170hp N/A hatchback is just ghaY!!!!!!

Well, I better keep my 05 STi running for as long as possible, because now I have no idea what I'll get after this.

I remember saying how nasty the STI was before it came out here and I saw it in pics. Now it's not so nasty anymore. The same thing will happen to this car until Subaru actually makes a really good looking car for the first time in it's existence. I'm not gonna hold my breath. They still have a lot of work to do.

Okay, I'm going back to the idea of buying a used '05 or '06 if they are still around in 4 years, not that I was going to buy a new one anyway.

Did anybody read that the car pictured is a concept car? The actual car will probably look almost nothing like that. They said the new car would be based on the concept. That probably means the chassis layout and perhaps the silhouette.

The B9 was a concept car too and look what happened.

I dont understand. there is constant talk of the impreza being a golf rival. If they are talking about adding a hatch to the line then its not a bad idea, sorta like what mazda did with the 3. but to go ahead and "throw the sedan out the window"...big mistake. I for one wouldnt buy a hatch. and if we use the WRC scene as a reason to switch to hatch then it might make sense but lets not forget that subaru has a strong showing in the GT scene as well.

I call BS on Subaru targeting the GTI.In the latest BMI vid with the 06 STI the head of Subaru clearly states they are targeting cars like the M3.Not some overpriced POS,Mexico made, heavy unreliable GTI.It makes no sense.

The from that picture is the CONCEPT B5-TPH (Turbo Parallel Hybrid) It comes with a 2.0 liter boxer 256hp and 252lb*ft torque. Uses a Miller conbustion cycles, which leaves the intake valves partially open at the start of the compression stroke. Which allows the turbo to do some of the compression. This would then leave the car with less torque at low RPMs. To overcome that Subaru added an electric motor between the engine and transmission. The motors delivers maximum torque as soon as they start up so the hybrid system offsets the turbo lag that causes the miller cycle's low-speed sluggishness. The above allows the car to burn 30% less fuel then the current model, without sacrificing performance.

The TPH POWERTRAIN is scheduled to be released in a version of the Legacy for the JDM in 2007.

The above is from the April 2006 Issue of the IEEE Spectrum magazine. I grabbed the highlights from it. If you want more details let me know perhaps I can try to scan it is about half a page or so.

I dont understand why they target VW golf GTi, it will never accomplish what the Impreza has, to start of with, Impreza has rally roots, while the GTi, has some city racer feel. The GTi is cheaper then the STi, so why are they even comparing them, the GTi, is equivilent in price and slower then the WRX base. And must subaru go out of there way each time and make a new design each and evry year because they notice competition has done something they also can do. OK, a Subaru hatch isnt bad, however why dont they just make a whole new badge instead of the Impreza. Something totally different, the impreza has history and victories to its name, now its just gonna be a city hatch from what they seem to be trying to achieve. Its like McDonalds saying we are gonna stop selling burgers, we are targetting Pizza Hut, so Pizza's are all we have on the menu.
