| Amateur STI Driver | When I was talking to the dealer, he was trying to say the etching on the glass on the '09 Subaru I was looking at was voluntary depending on the dealer and I think he is trying to put the cost of it and Nitrogen gas in the tires in the costs. ![]() Do you think I can tell him to eat those 'costs' when I go in to haggle tomorrow? | Silver Member | Don't pay for etched glass if you don't want it. If they insist on charging you then just walk out. Etched glass is right up there with all the other crap they sell (paint sealant, fabric protectant, etc.) They charge you hundreds for $5 worth of stuff. Total rip off IMHO. |

| Silver Member | Well the gist is that they etch a number into your glass. So if thieves steal and part out your car, they can't part the glass. The very idea is shaky at best. And the fact that they charge you several hundred dollars for it is ridiculous. |

| Amateur STI Driver | k, sounds good.. I'm thinking I can probably knock at least $1000 off the price. I hate paying for wonky gimmicky stuff and most of the extra costs he mentioned I thought fit into the wonky category. |

Normally they etch the VIN into the glass, with that if your car is stolen, your vehicle make, model, year, color, license plate, and VIN number is transmitted to all law enforcement. so if anyone comes across your windows they can be arrested for possession of stolen property | |
