Default Downshifting a turbo ????

Question for you STi gurus.

My Sti is the first ever turbo car I've owned. However, I have had plenty of manual transmission cars.

I always downshift when coming to a stop.

I was wondering if thats still OK to downshift with a turbo. I know the turbo is feed by the exhaust and I just wanted to be sure that downshifting will not create some form of negative vortex resulting in engine explosion and a tear in the space/time contineum.

No worries, just downshift correctly which it seems you know should know how.

The turbo won't spin backwards. You are still pushing air through the motor>exhaust.

Its just fine to downshift and use engine braking, no harm will come from it.

Congrats on the new STi. Just to elaborate, it's even more important to downshift and keep your engine in the proper rpm range than it is with a conventionally aspirated car. While the STi--like most modern turbocharged cars--has relatively little turbo lag when compared to turbos of yore, it's still pretty gutless when you're off boost at low rpms. If you don't keep the revs within the range where you're making decent power, you lose the throttle response that enables you to react to a need for more power.

engine breaking ok? LOL.. rev matching downshifts.. you say you have driven manuals before, so I will assume that you rev match.
