| Amateur STI Driver Car: Red 2008 WRX STi Fav Mod: Hopefully Perrin Stage 1/AP... weeshalllseee Location: Jersey City Posts: 48
IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | OK, so I'm not a racer, I'm not on a track, I'm just a guy, driving around, having some fun. The STi is not my first performance car - I've done a few track days, I ride a motorcycle daily. That's my level of driving experience. Having said all that, here's what my impressions of the new ECU flash are. First of all, it's called a 'recall' on my dealer generated paperwork. In fact, it's called the "WVE15 Recall". It's done under warrantee. It takes - brace yourself - 45 mins to run the program. Clearly this is more than maps. In the past 1000 miles run mostly the Perrin maps - but also the past 100 miles on the stock maps, and this morning the 30 miles to the dealer was all stock map - so it was pretty fresh in my mind. The flashed car is MUCH more usable. The stumbling in first gear at the light is gone, there is more power below 3K. The delivery of the power is much more linear. It's WAY WAY smoother all around. This is a very noticeable change - it's not subtle. You can feel free to rev around the gearbox and know that you will be making power all over. Having said that, the big 4-5 K wallop is gone. It doesn't have the aggressiveness of the Perrin maps. It's not as quick, in my perception. It is PROBABLY as quick as the old stock maps - but it's so different that it's hard to tell. I'm looking forward to having my A/P back and being able to switch back and forth from stock to Perrin - but the flash upgrade is definitely a thing worth doing and very much increases the value of the stock car. Also, just one shout out, I also got the car performance aligned at Eurotire in New Jersey. For 100 bucks, this is also noticeable change in handling. My son, who is 4, and went with me and was a very good boy the whole time, says to say "We Like Red!" This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | Cobb accessport WORKS with my flashed car. VIN L828190. Did it with Chris from Cobb on the phone. Live data works, Perrin map reinstalled, new factory map downloaded properly. |

IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | This is good news ^.^ Should I be waiting for my "official recall document" to arrive via mail? Or could I just set up an appointment with the dealership without any need for a document? |

| Senior STI Driver | Sounds promising! Hopefully, this also gets rid of the reliability issues we've seen around lately. If there was a fundamental flaw in the program, no map would've helped. Still waiting results from Cobb |

| Junior STI Driver | I'm scheduled for this Wednesday, so we'll see how it goes. I definitely have the low rpm stumble and rough idle. I've been avoiding redline and WOT since I'm still under break-in. |

perhaps you will then change your name to engfailur....but in all seriousness, get the tune for peace of mind but the odds really are in your favor that you will never encounter any issues with your new ride. Congrats on your ride, have fun with it, and embrace your warranty! This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. | |
