Default random question: melted plastic bag on exhaust

So...you drive down the highway and once in a while there is floating debris: paper, trash...sometimes a plastic bag. So I'm driving on the 10, and of course there is a red plastic bag floating in the air. I drive over it and wait to see it bellow out from underneath the car in my rear view mirror, but it instead never surfaces.

After I park I look under the car, and there is melted red plastic coating my exhaust pipes right before the can. So...what do I do? Just scrape it off or something? I was surprised it didn't just burn off.

You're likely stuck with it on there until it burns off. It'll smell like ass for a while, but eventually it'll burn off. I don't think you'll have much luck trying to scrape it off....

You could just take a propane torch and burn it all off, don't melt a hole in your exhaust though....

get a razor blade, put on some thick gloves and scrape it off while the exhaust is hot after a spirited drive

if your drive is good enough, you might need to scrape

did it on the LGT. Still stinks 2 months later, if I sit at Idle for too long.

I tried nothing to remedy the problem.

A friend of mine had this happen to his Triumph motorcycle, which has chrome exhaust, etc. I gave him a sample of the solvent my company, Enviro Tech makes, called EnSolv. It is based on n-propyl bromide, is safe, non-flammable & compatible with all metals. It also removes melted plastic bag from exhaust components very easily, and will remove any organic soils like grease, wax, oil. A single 12 oz aerosol can is about $12. To learn more please visit Nonflammable Solvent Suppliers Non-Flammable Solvents, or call 708-343-6641 to order. We can accept a CC.
Hopefully this is not interpreted as a shameless plug, rather, just trying to help out someone on the forum.
BTW, EnSolv is incompatible with many plastics like ABS, acrylic, polycarbonate, styrene, etc so use with care in that regard. Also, be careful near paint or coated surfaces because it will strip many of those items too.

Hi, order one can of EnSolv-SC. It comes in a 12 oz can. I hope it works for you, just read the instructions & observe the recommended safety practices: safety glasses, good ventillation, allow the exhaust to cool, etc. Viton gloves are best, but if you can't get those, do your best to minimize exposure to skin. It defats (dries out) skin, by extracting the oils, so be careful.

Thanks...that Ensolv sounds like, very hardcore! lol

I just went to the carwash and the guys just powersprayed it all off with water. Did the trick they got every last bit off and now my car doesn't smell like melted crayons whenever I stop and idle lol.
