Lightbulb Center Exhaust Idea

I was looking at the pics from the STI muffler delete mods in other threads and got an idea from SLVR08STI's pics. Here's my great idea: Dual center exhaust tips. Granted, you'd have to replace the rear "diffuser" piece, but there would be so much less piping & parts you'd need to buy that it *might* make up the difference. Take a look... here is a pic from SLVR08STI. The midpipe goes towards the back really close to the vehicle's centerline and curves off to the side. So why not go straight back? Notice that if there was a place in the diffuser, the center exhaust would work REALLY well, ala Lamborguini Revonton or Mini Cooper S (though I doubt many of you would like your 08 STIs to be compared to a Mini). The center exhaust would also be almost as direct as going out the driver's side with the stock midpipe and even more direct if the stock midpipe was replaced w/a custom piece that went straight instead of turning off to the side. What do you guys think?

p.s. SLVR08STI...pm me if you don't want me using your picture.

The only problem I see is the ground clearance of the muffler. Currently the pipe coming back on the drivers side goes into the muffler which sits parallel to the rear wheels. The muffler would have to fit in that recess (requiring a smaller muffler probably) and flow front to back which might present said ground clearance issues.

Hmm... I didn't really think of that. The picture I snagged was from a user who had removed his stock muffler w/straight piping. So I figured whatever aftermarket exhaust wouldn't need a muffler. Not sure how loud the stock exhaust without a muffler would be w/an aftermarket downpipe. Any other ideas/comments? Could anyone photoshop an STI w/a center exhaust? It'd look cool w/the spec-c diffuser styling, but in the middle.

I'm getting a catless d/p, so I will make a before and after video. One w/ just the muffler delete and one w/ delete and three inch catless d/p.

P.S. I don't care if anyone uses my pictures. I'm just glad to help people think of new ideas.

Honestly with some custom exhaust work and a new lower rear bumper panel(it has to be changed out to make it aesthetically fit). The problem with the current one is it has places for the quad exhaust and plastic in the center. So could what you want be done? Yes and it's definitely a neat idea. You just have to either dish out a pretty penny for custom plastic work or get it ghetto fitted.

I think it isnt a bad idea, however someone might see it as being an imposter of the R32's.

I like the idea - it's something I was thinking of doing to mine. I would like something square-ish, kind of how the exhaust on the 4.6l BMW X5 used to look? Not sure if I'm actually going to pursue it but I think it could look cool. If you do it, post pics please!

Here's a really bad photoshop of what it might look like. I'm not planning on doing this myself (which would be tough considering I don't own an STI) but thought it'd be cool if a vendor decided to take the idea and run with it. better center exhaust designs would be from the Lamborguini Revoton or even the Acura TL (non type-s)... as opposed to my mouse-spray on design...

My question is simple. Can anyone check to see if the bottom plastic part of the rear bumper can come apart from the rest of bumper. If it can that would be pretty cool in that exhaust makers could make the exhaust of their choice and put the exit pipe anywhere in any design. That would make for some cool customization and uniqueness in exhaust size, shape, and exit point. Want a 1 sided 1 over sized tip exhaust like the older STi's but don't want the extra hole on the other side- they can remedy this if it's a small simple piece of plastic. And it wouldn't even really be ricer- just allowing it to fit.
