Default After almost 3weeks, Perrin finally sends me their STG1 COBB AP Map... now what?

first. i did a search. didn't find what i was looking for.

Basic Info.
i'm in Maryland, we have 93 octane everywhere. I use Shell 93 oct v-power. i'm definitely above sea level.

I got my COBB AP v2 a little over 2 weeks ago from Perrin and immediately did COBB Stage 1. I've had no problems so far. the car's stock stumble is gone and the car pulls hard. The throttle does feel wierd and the boost does kick in very suddenly at times, but overall i have no major complaints so far.

Perrin just emailed me their 93 octane Map today after 2 weeks. Should I try it? I'm really lazy and don't feel like going through changes since i'm satisfied with the Cobb map so far.

I just want to see other experiences that are THE SAME to mine.

93 octane
stage 1.
Perrin or Cobb?

On ACN 91, my Perrin map felt much better than the Cobb... was smoother, with a much easier torque build-up and held power much better to redline.

Compared to my Pro-Tune, the Perrin map was only 10hp less! Jon @ HB Speed was impressed by it.

But, with regards to the 93 map, I don't know. Best thing to do, is to try both! It only takes 10 minutes to switch between maps.... give it a shot! Make sure you re-flash, and don't do just real-time.

The thing is, everybody's car is different, and everybody has a different preference as to what is "better" for them...

With the ACN91, majority seemed to prefer the Perrin, but there was still also certain people that preferred the Cobb...

atleast try it, see what works best for your car. each car will respond a little different to everything.

It wouldn't matter much, since elevation/temp/etc affect each car differently.

What you can do, is use the "Simulated" dyno on the Cobb AP... run both maps, do the dyno-test and see what the AP says has more power?

Like you, the Cobb stage 1 map fixed my problems with the factory tune... The Perrin map went one step further and delivered more than what I expected. Everytime I head to work in the morning I am the 218w to 1n on-ramp destroyer... WOT always leaves me with a huge grin on me face!

I am also on the 91 ACN cr@p gass... Though it is not the same as your 93 Oct, I can only imagine it being much better.

Yes, there is enough variation b/n cars that the subtle changes of each map may behave differently in two different cars. Having said that, I've been confirmed to be at Pro-Tune levels on my Cobb Stage 2 ACN map. YMMV.

Just remember that the ECU needs some time to learn the new map so your experience may change as the ECU is learning. Or you could do the crash course in ECU learning by following a procedure that was posted by I believe Shiv in NASIOC.com.

Yep.

Give it a shot and see how it works out.

I might be ordering one but I'm thinking I'm going to go with their 91 or 92 octane map. I'll be leaving some power on the table but I think those should be a bit more conservative and less risk which I'm all about after issues with my 05.

I found this Blog entry on Perrin's site comparing their Stage 1 tune to the OEM tune: Perrin Performance - 2008 PERRIN STI Stage 1

It doesn't say what octane they ran for that test. I thought they also had a chart comparing the Cobb Stage 1 to the Perrin Stage 1 but I can't find it at the moment, or maybe I'm just imagining things in my old age...

I ran Cobb AP 91 Octane v1.00 for a while then switched to the Perrin 93 Octane map I got with the then-brand-new AP. I've been running the Perrin map ever since (3 to 4 months). However, I recently unmarried the AP to take the car in for routine service. When I reinstalled it, I did so with the new 91 Octane v1.01 Cobb map because I plan a trip shortly to an area where nearly every stations' premium is 91. It's too early to tell if I have the same issues with the v1.01 that a few others have reported. I also know that 91 v 93 isn't a fare comparison. But I do know that I liked the power delivery of the 93 Perrin more than OEM or Cobb 91 and that my MPG was much better with the Perrin 93 than with the OEM mapping.
