Default Pic Request: BlueBatmobile's red overlay kit w/ lights on/brake lights on

I am definitely considering picking these up from bluebatmobile, but want to make sure the LEDs still come through adequately.

I searched but didnt see any pics when the lights are on or when the brakes are pressed. Does someone have a pic of either? Also, how easy are they to put on?

Thanks,
John

I have the Harman Motive overlays... they are nice and thick and a little more "red" than the BBM ones.

Application is easy if you have the patience, and use the right equip.

You need a hair dryer and a spray bottle. I put 2-3 drops of dish soap in the spray bottle, and made a warm "MILD" soapy solution. Clean the light, and then heat it up with the hair dryer. Get it nice and warm to the touch. Remove the film backing, and spray the light AND the back-side of the film like crazy.

Apply the overlay, and slide it around until it's centered. You will have a bunch of creases to work out, and the ONLY way to do that, is with the spray solution, heat, and A LOT of massaging. work from the middle out, and keep it warm. All the bubbles should easily be massaged out if it hasn't started to set yet. There's A LOT of "stretching" and pulling involved, to get the curves right.

Don't worry about overhang, as you can trim that later, as long as all of the light is covered. Takes about 30 minutes for the whole job. It's easier with 2 people. Remember too, as you're going if it doesn't look right at all, you can always take the whole film off, and try again, assuming you keep everything nice and wet!

I have this pic in the day-time of the HM overlay. I've been meaning to take a night shot, so I'll do that tonight. You can still EASILY see the LED's at night... it looks great.

Thank you! Very informative post there. How much are the harman motive kits? I think I linked their site at home somewhere, so I'll have to look. Not sure what to think about them being redder than the BBM's, but I'll have to look more later tonight. Maybe I'll get the car rockblocked/clearbra'd, tinted, and have these all put on at the same time.

Compared to the other '08 that had them at the Puente Hills meet I was at, the BBM ones just looked a little lighter, more see-through... I really liked the Harman ones a lot more, when you compare them side-by-side... but it's all a personal opinion.

They were like $65 I think?

I helped a friend do his with the Harman kit. I tried twice on mine with the Harman kit and was never happy with it. The problem is that the area that needs to be stretched is actually in the middle - doing it by yourself you wind up applying it in the middle and trying to stretch out the edges. What we did was soak everything in the slip solution and use a hairdryer to get the overlay very warm, especially in the middle. I held the edges in the vertical plane, he held the horizontal and we pressed down together to stretch the middle over the light - I'm not describing it well but if you ever see a manufactured sheet of plastic stretched over a mold you know what I mean.

for someone whose not crafty (me), it was very difficult to apply the overlays yourself. you need lots of patience and experience dealing with this kinda of material. my first set of overlays ended up in a ball because it was so ugly with wrinkles... the place i took it to actually told me that it would have been a lot easier if you went and got your own red vinyl and apply it that way with a bigger piece. with the precut overlays, you have one shot and thats it.

i have a bad cell phone picture of my car with the overlays on and parking lights on during the day.

Yeah but where are you gonna find the material in such a small quantity?

I don't have the requested pic BUT I can shed some light on ease of application. I went with the Lamin-X film (in light smoke) and it was fairly easy. Especially after I laid them out in the sun for a bit before starting. I didn't use a hair dryer and got the things installed in about 15 minutes each side. The headlights, however, were a MAJOR PITA but I won't go there. And by the way, I am far from a pro installer.

do you have to do the cutout yourself or does BBM supply them like that?
