Default STi transmission

Hello, I currently own a 2003 evo and have been in the market for a 2008 sti. I was just curious on how the 2008 sti transmisson was, because as we all know the evo's transmission is far from great. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Basically bullet proof. The transmission is the best part about the car. Lots of people running big horsepower on the stock STI trans.

Love it. Very smooth and positive feeling. Also known for being very durable.

The tranny in our cars is tough plain and simple. I know first hand because mine takes a beating on a daily basis and no problems

I think the Big Valley STI was at 500WHP, before they had to get stronger gears...

So, unless you're running 500hp at the wheels, it will be bulletproof, unlike the known Evo tranny issues... you can abuse the subies all day, and have NO problems.

the big valley sti was a drag car though, that puts a lot more abuse on it than typical driving.

The STI tranny is one hell of a gear box and I dont think that you will have any problems with it at all.

Exactly... and the fact they used the STOCK tranny, until they were well over 500whp, shows how awesome these tranny's are.

I thought the Evo's tranny's were pretty good right? I mean, I heard the 6 speed one in the MR had problems, but the 5 speed was great...and hence Mitsu stuck with it for the Evo X GSR...

Evo's are limited from a stop at 5000 rpm's, if I remember correctly, because the tranny can't handle the abuse of anything above that. Part the reason why Subi 0-60 times have generally been faster.

They are about a "mix" between WRX stregth, and STI strength...

WRX trannies were known to be glass, and the EVO was a little better, but people were still blowing diff's, and 1-2 gears all the time...
