Default Purchasing question

I'm having trouble getting my local subie dealer to let the 08 STI go for invoice -2% through the VIP Program. The sales manager told me that the car was too "Hot" right now and why would he sell it to me at invoice when he could get their asking price for it. (they're asking $40,XXX for the BBS package). So, do you think it would be possible for me to order one from another dealer (in the lower 48) and have shipped straight to Alaska, or would it have go to the dealer first and then me pay for additional shipping up here. I would go to another dealer up here but they would say the same thing. Thanks in advance for your help.

I would exhaust all the local dealers before I would venture out-of-state. Never hurts to ask, especially when it's a phone call away.

Call or email Joe Spitz at Carter Subaru in Seattle...I just went down and picked up an '08 WRB w/BBS and NAV for less than invoice...They're good people. I drove mine back and had a great time, but you can ship it for about $1,000 and still be money ahead.

Fully loaded BBS + NAV on the WRB at my dealer is only listed at 38K~

This being california, I'd imagine they are allowed significant mark-up in alaska.

I'm not real sure what shipping costs would come out to be up there...but I'd be pretty certain nothings too "Hot" in alaska to mark down a bit

Anyways, Call a car shipping company and see about buying one down here and having it trailered up, I'd definitely say its worth the research (could save a few grand *shrug*)

Good Luck!~

Thanks Sonny, I think i'll do that. Dealers in AK have the upperhand when it comes to negotiating, as there is usually only one deal of each carmaker, so folks up here either take the deal, or fly to Seattle to find a car for thousand cheaper.
We have one Subie dealer in Anchorage, the next closest one is 500 miles away, and the other one in the state is on a island 700 or so miles away...with no road to get to it.

The STi is hot item car and most high model cars, any make, are excluded from any deals or programs. I would call around. I have a friend that bought two FJs, separate times, on the other side of the country to save $3000 each. Good luck.

Sonny, if you don't mind me asking did you take the ferry up or drive the Alcan? And how much did you spend on gas? Congrats on the new car as well, suprised that i haven't seen your STI around yet.

MrDubb, perhaps you can use the Seattle dealers as a negotiating tool and let them know you'll go there if they don't deal. Maybe if they see that you're going to get your offered price, they MIGHT deal. I guess it all depends on how "hungry" the dealers are.

GM,
Hopefully that will work, I would rather not drive/ship it up here but I gotta look out for the wallet. Did anybody order theirs from the dealer? The sales manager i talked to up here said he wouldn't order one for me because he can't guarantee delivery.

+1 for Joe Spitz at Carter Subaru in Seattle. Just call him and he will give you a great price. You just need to tell him what you want and he'll get it. He gave me my 08 for +500 over invoice as the 1st price. At deliver he gave me another 500 off. Easiest car purchase I've ever made.

Nothing more than supply and demand. Dozens and dozens of Sti's available in New England. I spoke to 5 different dealers and they were all willing to negotiate.

I pick mine up tomorrow from a CT dealer that has 10+ STi's on the lot.

Am paying $400 under invoice.

Just for clarification... MSRP is different than invoice right?

and what are we calling invoice?

What are some of the financing terms you guys are getting on these? PM me if you're willing to divulge some info for me.

If the car was that hot, it wouldn't still be in the showroom
