Default 1st Time on Track (Summit Point)

Had my 1st track experience on the track with the 08 STi at Summit Point "Shenandoah Circuit" and it performed great. It had a bit of understear but not too bad. I am running a Cobb stage 2 with a pro-tune, Toyo RA1 255 x 40 with whiteline strut-tops so I can run a little bit of negative camber, about 1.5. The only problem I had was the rear tires would rub and started to cut into the tires. I tried to roll the fenders in a little at the track which seemed to help a little. Car ran great in the rain too, but it would really understear if I pushed it comming out of the corners. I was running it in sport# and in Auto(-). It was my 1st time on track with this car so I thought I would play it safe and keep the stability control on (1st time running on this track also). It didn't seem to be to intrusive. I also upgraded my brake fluid and changed my pads to PFC 01s and they worked great.

Overall it was a good experience with the STi. My old track car was a 350Z. The STi is much easier to drive fast!

What wheels are you running? There's no reason that tire size should rub.

A little more neg camber will make your front tires happier too.

I have a set of Rota's that I got from Subie Dude. I think the offset is a little too much. I think if I roll the fenders a little it should be OK. If I could get any more camber out of the stock suspension I would but for now that is as much as I can get.

What Whiteline strut tops are you using? I figured you meant their camber plates.

I think auto[-] is for dry pavement...you mentioned rain so I am thinking auto[+] would have been more appropriate.

Where did you buy the Whitelines? Are you running stock BBS rims? Thanks.

W're running 285 30 18 on a 50 mm offset for autocross, and it is not even close to rubbing. I'm going to fit 315 30 18 soon to see if it's feasible.

If you are understeering coming out of the corners, few things can happen. First being you're apexing a little bit too early and need to put more steering input as you are finishing the turn and heading toward the straight. This can cause understeer as weight is still being transfer. Try apex the corner a little bit later. This way, you can accelerate out of the corner faster and not needing as more of steering input as you apex early in the corner.

Second, have you check your tire pressure? If you are understeering, that mean the front tire is not getting grip and the rear tires are gripping more. Try lower the front tire pressure a bit more. Of course you can play with tire pressure to suit your liking.

Third, of a anti-roll bar kit will help a lot on this problem and it one of the cheapest mods you can do.

I still think the best think is to modify the driver. I have been reading this book called "Speed Secrets, Professional Race Driving Techniques" and it tells you a lot of the basic of race car driving and basic car set up. Try it out.
