That was a great article. All I know is that I absolutely am in love with my 2008. It never fails to make me very happy.

I'd love to find an Evo driver in Calgary who wants to swap for half an hour and see the difference though.

Pretty cool. So many articles in the past few months put the EVO on top. Nice for the media to see the light of day!

Yup, just a matter of slightly different priorities. In ultimate performance the Evo usually edges out the STI. But it comes at a price that many of us aren't willing to pay. Different strokes for different folks.

Edit: The writer of that article does lose style points, however, for repeatedly calling the center diff viscous.

Thanks for putting up the article.

But wow, in-gear accel at 4th gear, the difference is a lot. Granted the ratios are closer on the EVO, that's pretty big.

The STi is much better car as a daily driver. The six speed isn't as busy as I thought it would be, but still puts down plenty of power. Having too much response can actually be a hinderance to overall drivability.

I dont get why people keep complaining that the STI cost so much more than the evo? To add HIDs to an EVO requires a 2k pkg which makes it MORE expensive than the STI. Floor mats are an option on a EVO wtf?

Because with the EVO you can add those options if ya want! The car does not need to be fitted with everything! A good example would be to look at a BMW and the STI. People say "oh we don't need those options like the BMW has!" We justify how the STI is more car for the price! But the reality is the EVO is the best bang for the buck! People just need to decide!

That's not a function of how close the ratios are, it's just a direct comparison of 4th gear to 4th gear and final drive on both cars. I don't think it's a useful comparison. I've assumed up until now that the reason the gear lever exists is so I can select the most appropriate gear for the situation I'm in .

I disagree. "Best" is a word that only has meaning on an individual basis. I won't buy another car without HID, so I don't consider a car without them to be suitable. Ergo, it can't be the best at anything. Plus, for my daily driver I require a reasonable amount of utility, more than the Evo has no matter how much I option it out. As a result, the STI is always my best bang for the buck compared to the Evo.

The 4th gear comparison is just silly.

When the prior poster said, "But the reality is the EVO is the best bang for the buck" I'd say only in the "reality" which exists between his two ears. In my "reality," the Evo wasn't even in the running. Not even close.

EVO certainly doesn't look like the best bang for the buck in English pricing. Looks like they got close to a 2 grand price drop on the STI.

They tested it against what would essentially be an MR here, AFAIK. At least, it had SST, which is an expensive option. Assuming the 5-speed GSR is available over there, it's probably more than $2K less expensive.

It's about time we got a positive review in a magazine. I would like for someone to do a review over a 3 month period of the two cars. Every car mag I've read just compared how they handle on a road course. But most of us here use our cars for daily driving and an occasional road course. I'd like to hear what they have to say about these cars after driving them around on a daily basis (to work, to the store, long trips, etc.). Then give us their opinion.
