Default Here and Gone... my moment of Clarity

So I have really done alot of research, and there is a wealth of information either from videos, forums/ blogs, or the STi Japan website; but with professional exams on heels its getting to be to time consuming. I have some simple questions.

Has any one traded in their '04 for the '08, (STi of course) ? If so please contact me. I have an Aspen White on silver.

I am considering the trade very seriously and it would be done with in the next few days. I have sourced a few I like, already went to the dealer, aligned my finances, and I’m prepping the '04 for possible trade.

Further more, did any of you guys get to test drive the ’08 before purchase. I didn’t get to in ’03 which is rubbish IMO. The salesman at the dealership was not too much of a help, but at least he let me mess with everything. After his third sentence to me was "I believe the sport sharp is the casual setting,” Yeeaaaah, if you like opposite lock. I kind of just started doing my own thing in regard to checking out the car. Anything in particular I should be looking for this time around when taking the car off the lot? Diff fluids check out for everyone?

For the most part, it seems like a great trade, for all the reasons the 04 didn’t cut it being even semi-sophisticated . That and also, the majority of the things that were provided OEM (SAA, SOJ, SOA, SOUK, SOD) are now bone stock on the STi . From the navigation to the bushings, down to the red paint we have been shafted with since practical inception of the STi, not to mention EUDM spec C. Anything I would have done to the GD before is available for this model to some extent (is this the GG or GH - I think its GG), such as the L'aunsport WRC kit (FTW) , or the Gr. N parts and Sports STi products. Burn-Up has been slipping lately... Any one check out the 6 pot brake kit they will PROBABLY have on the S205 and next set of Spec C’s? Or what about the Hand Break Lever and Master Cylinder/ Booster. Gggggggangstaaaa!

I am rambling now, when all I really need to know is...

..Will I regret my decision in regard to driver feel and input (or the lack there of in the 08 from my understanding) as well as over all aggressiveness? From my solid understanding, the 04 seemed to be the most untamed out of the box. They kind of dropped the ball this year with the DCCD rehaul, and addition of the electronic gismos they use as a sales pitch, IMO. The 04 was all out mechanically raw , CAN I EXPECT THE SAME OUT OF THE 08? Another thing, I rally my STi pretty hard – I am a fervent believer that if you have something, use it to the fullest of its capabilities. Have been for a while, and I just got to know… any one take theirs for any muddy excursions yet? How’s it react on the dirt this time? Any one pushing to get the 15 x 6.5 rims from STi, now that would be alot of fun!!!

Ok. TIA! Hope to become more active on the forum if I get this on Saturday, as I damn sure don’t plan on waiting for the warranty to run out this time.

i have an '04 Sti and i am also considering going to an 08' at the end of the year. I test drove one at my dealer and i honestly liked it alot. it feels alot more "grown up" from the 04 and i like the overall feel of it. The interior is a HUGE improvement over the 04' IMO. My sti is already at 92,000 and subaru will give me around 15,000 for it. I'm just waiting for the 09's to come out and see what improvements they make to it. The ride is kind of "soft" as many have said it was, but coming from an 04' i see that as a postive thing.

I hosted a meet a few weeks ago which we got around 60 people. Every single person there was asking me if I liked my 08sti better then my 05sti. I said you cant really compair them sense they are basicly two different cars. The 05sti had this raw feeling which made it such a drivers car. But my 08sti has the feel like its a bmw.....

Basicly they are equal in my eyes......

Why are you suprised, that's about what you get on trade in for a car with that many miles. There have been other memebers on this board who traded their cars in with 100 and 120K on them and the dealer gave them i think around 13-14K for the car.

If you have taken good care of you car and have service records you can sell an STi with 100K on it for around 17K or so private party.

A 1988 BMW maybe... don't get me wrong, I love my 08, but it feels *nothing* like a BMW to me, even the IX bimmers.

I sold my 04 to get the most $ out of it. You get hosed if you trade in your car. Unless you owe more than you can get private party I wouldnt concider trading in my car. I diddnt test drive the 08 first, but had a great idea of what to expect. My modded 04 STI was way faster, but even with all the suspension mods on my 04 the stock 08 was a lot better. I am not looking back at all. You cant tell that it handles like a wagon at all. The grip is amazing and all he features and the ride make it feel like a BMW to me. I am going stage 2 soon and cant wait to see what it feels like. Mods to com Cobb AP, Perrin inlet tube, maddad EL headers and uppipe, maddad DP and wisper back, prodrive boost syl, Cobb cai, Perrin pully, DW 650cc injectors, walbro FP, AMS intake manifold (when avalable). My goal is to hit 350whp and 425lbft of torque to the wheels and I think it will happen. On top of that I would like to hit the 11's in the quarter mile with the stock turbo then ultimately go with the blouch dom3

after owning 2 wrx's, a LGT, and working on and setting up multiple 04-07 STi's im glad i made my decision to get an 08. its got plenty of punch and posh, yet is able to fly below the F&F radar.

It will be a lot, but I always price shop and look out for good deals or do a little work trade for mods. It wont be done all ot once, but over a couple years. I like to see how each mod effects the car so its one at a time.

Why does every one keep saying that? Grown up? I call it toned down. Any improvements that will most likely be able to be made from the 09 to the 08, and from my experience, it usually does. The GC even had its way of utilizing supporting mods from following years, and you can still go back (at least with GD) and use GC parts. Hell, I’ve seen a build with a bug eye becoming a S20X. And about the ride harshness, I oddly actually enjoyed having my eyes jarred out of my head. Will it make a difference on the trail is what I’m more concerned about.

Where abouts are you located? That raw feeling is what I bought the car for in the first place. I didn’t care if it had rear cup holders and illuminated footwells, because I knew all that can be found in the more base models, or will be released in the following years with mods possible to the 08. But interesting on the beemer comparison. I similarly got an overall sense of increased luxury while I was sitting in the cabin. Wish we got the push start, but its an option for sale in japan.

That’s for realzzz yo!!! Part it out if you want even more. I saved all my service records with meticulous detail and I think it helps when you do a private sale.

Yeah, probably hard to gauge when you’re going warp speed past the Bavarian *****es in your 08.

I just finished paying my car off, and I am getting the Subaru Trade-in Guaranteed rate. Plus, after all that Clarity has been through, I will definitely be getting the better end of the bargain. TRUST ME! Im ready to sign!

So your 04 WAS faster, and what exactly about the suspension would you say is better ? And you’re like the 4th person to say the BMW thing. I wonder what the 1 series will be like. Good luck with the build, ill be tuning in for updates!!! I was just talking with my coz about an 11 second build I just read on a stock turbo. The 48 is wise and wisdom is to be learned from it. It shall take you far, ok, so maybe not far – about a quarter mile… but it will hopefully be fast.

Mods Wish List: Everything in the STi and L’aunsport brochures. SWEEEET JEEEEESSSSUUUUSSSSS!!!!!! If it was the choice of infertility and ability to keep modding orrrrr insatiable amounts of luscious females to enable my voracious appetite for tight ass. (Just so it’s clear, this is all in fun to any females that may be reading this. Don’t worry, I hate it to when the hood-rats occularly undress thissssssssss ). On the real, I want to go open source for the tuning. As for mods, I think I am going to stay all in house whenever possible. It’s what I would have done with Clarity, it what ill DO FOR REAL this time around.

I have had the privilege of owning…one. But I have been into Subaru since 1996. After the 22B and Electra S-1 came out, something happened to my impressionable mind. And forever shall I remain tainted…lolz, jk. Being younger i convinced most of my older cousins to get into them. I’ve been familiar with the GC since 1999, had plenty of time in a bugeye GG, and after getting my 04 talked my coz into getting an 05. While working on the different models, what are some of the most notable differences you have seen in contrast with your 08? TIA. The F&F radar is too late. I’m planning on purchasing a red one, and then WRC it out, so I don’t know about all that, I am going to need a F&F laser jammer before I get any breaks on that. I like the luxury a bit though. Just wish it didn’t cause such an increase in weight. Burn-Up and L’aunsport addressed the diet already, so weight can be shed with a healthy serving of carbon fiber. Just need someone to come out with the rear hatch and roof, thought Seibon is probably working on doors and hatch already.

You can price shop, I’ll booty drop…. Want to join forces? You said you will do a little “work trade” huh. What else could you be talking about?!?! You ARE talking about the same kind of work I’M talking about right? Who’s down for Industry Night?

Well, thanks for the pre-purchase support. Appreciate it greatly. Still hope to get some of the other questions in my first eulogy answered though.

One other thing, any one with the gold BBS that would be willing to sell &/or trade? So damn stupid to not make the wheel a choice left to the consumer, instead of choosing for me. Really Interested... gimmie some quotes plzzzzzz.

for example, this would be a nice start

Having owned a BMW 328is for 7 years (sold it last summer) and driven a 2004 STi on several occasions (yes, believe it or not, it was one of our company cars, the boss went a little nuts one day, god bless him) the '08 is great. It most definitely feels different then the '04. A bit more composed, probably, a bit more "polished," definitely. Of the faster vehicles I've owned, so far I like my '08 STI the best of the bunch.

I'd hardly use the term "luxury" to describe the interior. "Refined," yes. More thought out, yes. The tactile feel of the new parts just seems a bit better. It really boils down to what you like and what your priorities are. As for me, as much as I like a go kart with no frills, if I have to drive somewhere I don't want my teeth rattled out of my head and don't want to feel like I'm sitting inside of a shoe box. If I want that, then I drive my Alfa Spider :-)

I certainly doubt you would regret picking up a new STI. So far, I love mine.

Just my $0.02

I think the red with gold could be very nice. I just didn't love the red they choose for the car whereas the red EVO X is gorgeous. Good luck though with avoiding getting pulled over bi-weekly.
