Dealer told me that the 08's came with 3 free months... True? How do I turn it on?

That wasn't the case for me. I think they may be confused with previous models. First off you'll have to have the module installed, then you'll have to pay for a subscription.

You have to call Sirius to activate it. When you do, they'll ask for the unit's ID number and do the three months free. The weather channel (184) works on all unactivated Sirius units as a test.

as mine came with sat already... Canada Spec STI.

I just phoned them up, said i wanted the 3 months free. they asked for the Sat radio ID number. Bang done. Also got them to activate the free internet radio.

You have to phone them to get the 3 month... just say its a brand new subaru, and they do the rest.

Call the provider (in my case Sirius). You have to have the VID (PIN, whatever it's called) and they activate the basic free 3 month service. That's what they tried to do with me, but I was xfering my lifetime subscription from my portable to the STi's receiver, so passed on the 3 month preview.

FWIW- My bro has satellite radio in his acura.

After the "preview" expired they called to have him subscribe. He declined. They called another time or two, at which point he bartered them down to some ridiculously low rate. Something like $5 for a year ... I am not sure on the price, but it was a significant discount IIRC.

I don't have the Navigation package, but the radio still has a button for Satellite. Can I get Sirius installed on this head unit?

Yep. I had the Sirius receiver installed as a factory option with my base audio system. Works great!

As for activating my receiver, i had to do it with 4 phone calls and about 45 minutes, along with a trip to the dealer in between the calls.

(SID being what i think the unique receiver ID is called)

call 1 (Sirius): no idea how to pull up the SID number of the receiver and their notes don't work.
call 2 (SOA): no idea how to pull up the SID number of the receiver and their notes don't work.
visit to dealer: nothing in their computer that showed the SID number and no idea how to pull it up on the head unit.
call 3 (SOA): got someone who had just installed his receiver himself, so he grabbed his cell phone, went to his car and called me back from there; walking me through the process he had worked out.
call 4 (Sirius): gave them the SID and my existing receiver's SID along with my lifetime subscription info, activated the new receiver and xfered the lifetime subscription to the car.
