Default Re: Is Subaru putting on any extra paint protection for the 08?

Today while doing a PDI, on a DGM we got in yesterday, I noticed a much larger portion of the rear fenders covered in clear bra material(3/4 way to top of fender). Just to be sure I compared it to the other two spark silver cars I PDId on Monday and sure enough the film was nonexistant. This may be SOAs attempt at solving the rock chip issue.
I'll try and get pics up Monday.

I just got back from meeting with the Subaru rep in the NW. Good News! They are waiting to have the thick and larger clear bra manufactured, probably in the next month, and they will repaint my damaged area and install the new larger protection pieces. Right on Subaru!!!

Man that's what they said 2 months ago
this is getting old =(

My damages exceed $1500 already if it were to be repaired by a professional body shop due to them having to blend paint to match.
I might just opt to take the damage payment and put some money on top for a complete color change and respray if this continues.

I had almost all the Xpel paint film kits installed on my OBP and am very happy with the work. No chips that I am aware of, but a wash may change that opinion. It seems rinky dink to need to put film on a brand new car to prevent rock chips. These RA flaps are just too obtrusive for a street vehicle and there are no OEM flaps?!?

I'll have to check the new STi's at the dealer and see if they have a bigger paint protection patch. Not that it matters, I had that little square patch removed to install Xpel. The film installer said it wasn't 3M, but seemed like ok stuff.

Newer STIs will have a larger area covered by the protection material and it will be installed by dealers on cars where there is an issue according to my salesman. The subaru dealer intranet has a release from SOA that has pictures of the new material -- he showed me it.

IMHO Subie's new film still did not cover enough of the fender, either in terms of width or height, so I had the Xpel kit fenders installed.

No chips so far 650mi in anywhere on the car....

wow they really screwed up badly. My 06 has really crappy thin paint, and after a year it shows all over the thood. I'm thinking of repainting it and using rock blocker this time.
