Default Hard Break-in or Baby Break-in???

I dont get why you people want to baby your car for the first 1000 miles shifting before 4000 rpms... Havent you guys ever read this Break In Secrets--How To Break In New Motorcycle and Car Engines For More Power Its what really goes on, and guaranteed you'll be pulling better numbers doing it this way, than the way the manual explains... Or is the babying break-in the correct way? Because i want the way in which its best for my car, and im confused between the two. I need some help clarifying because the guy who wrote the article seems like he knows what hes doing lol But who knows.

I'm following a "modified" break-in procedure... I drove it easy for the first 10 miles. But I do try to mostly take it easy.. however, a few solid boosts to 6k now and then when absolutely necessary don't seem like they should really hurt. Closed out the day with 98 miles on the odo so far

On the way home from the dealership I averaged 3.2 miles a gallon. Just sayin.

the best break in procedure:

Just drive it like you would any day. A little cruising, a little hammering, just normal driving.

Dont baby it, and dont flog it all the time.

Easy...

I have heard of this guy before. The problem is if you ask 10 different people how to break-in an engine you'll get 10 different answers. I don't think there is a "right" answer. While I agree the machining process for modern engines has come a long way, and tolerances are tighter than ever, mass produced engines still need a break-in. I'm personally going to follow the recommendation in the Subaru manual, whatever that may be. If you want to follow the advice of someone name Motoman from the Internet that's your prerogative.

In my own personal experience, both with myself and friends, there have never been engine problems following the manufactures recommended break-in. A friend of mine very knowledgeable about cars is religious about following the manufacture break-in and he runs his cars 150,000 miles plus before flipping them. He's never once a had an engine related problem. So take that for what it's worth. Again, no right or wrong way, but to say following the manufactures advice is going to lead to a vaulty engine is BS.

When I owned Mustangs my response would be "let it warm up completely, then sideways down the road in front of the dealership" is the way to break in a new motor . Given the difficulty of doing that in an STI, I think the 3.2 mpg method is perfect . I think perfect would be to pick up the car first thing in the morning and then run a track day with it, then change the oil .

I just changed my oil at around 250 miles....The odo is at I dunno 350 or so right now, and it might be a good idea to rotate my tires.
