Default Picked up my Alpine White w/ BBS STI last weekend and I'm still smiling....

Hey guys,

Just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I've been lurking for a little while, but just recently got serious about trading in my 2004 Audi S4 in for the STI. After having some electrical issues and getting a fair price on trade-in, I ended up with my Alpine White w/ BBS STI. Since I picked it up last weekend, I've put on a couple of items such as tint, tailight overlays, Homelink mirror and AccessPort from Perrin.

In my limited stint with the car, I've noticed a couple of things. One, there is a whole lot of body roll. Lots of grip, but takes away from some of the confidence in the car's ability; and, compared to the S4, there's not nearly as much grunt down low. I know it's not fair to compare and 4.2L N/A V8 to a 2.5 L Turbo Boxer motor, but this is just something that I'll have to adjust to. Overall, though, this car is alot more fun and "tossable" than the S4.

I've also had the privilege of owning a 1998 Intgera Type R and 1999 BMW M3, and this car compares favorably to both of those wonderful machines. One of the main reasons I bought the STI is because I wanted a car I could drive around daily and take to autocross or HPDE events without spending an arm and a leg to run it, and I think I've found that car.

I know I've already gained some great knowledge about the car just by lurking on this forum. Hopefully, I'll be able to contribute in the future.

Thanks,
Jon

Congrats on the new ride, one of the best color combos. Next to WRB/Gold that is .

Read up on the boards, the stickies and how to's and enjoy.

Grab yourself an acessport and flash that crappy stock tune out the window . . . you'll find the low end you're looking for with minor mods.

Drive safe!

Hey welcome,
My buddy in VT has a S4 however the 2.7 twin turbo. I got a ride and drove it last weekend and it only seemed as though first gear was the only power gear. 2nd and 3rd didnt do much for me. In my 04 STi 2nd is still pulling and 3rd rips. Also again we are talking about two different Audis and then comparing to a Subaru. Thats my .02cents and welcome and congrats on a nice car! *JT

Congrats and welcome.

If you're looking for more low-end grunt, get a downpipe and a Protune. My '05 would spin through 1st and 2nd off the line coming out of the pits if I was being a boob. My '08 should make even more torque than my '05 in stage 2 form and after seeing some of the dyno plots, I can't wait. Stage 2 really wakes up the car (especially after a Protune.)

So far I haven't really noticed the body roll too much, but I've been driving my wife's Civic for the last 8 months, so anything is better than that.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the warm welcome.

As for pics of the tint and overlays, I'll try to get some good ones up depending on the weather this weekend. I went with BlueBatmobile's red overlay kit with the reverse light cutout. I had the tint guys install it, and the said it was pretty tough to install. Overall, I like the look, but I think I might get them painted for a more "finished" look.

Regarding the S4 vs. STI comparison, yeah, after the AccessPort installation, I'm a lot happier with the power of the STI, and agree with almost everybody that the STI should have come stock with the Stage 1 programming. I'm just getting used to a different power band. I do love the "push in the back" feeling you get around 4000 rpm, though.

Handling wise, I think I'll have to make some adjustments. I'm not a big fan of the steering feel, as I think it's just too light. I've been reading good things about the Perrin PSRS system, and will probably install that with some sways and springs/coilovers when a few more options are out.

Thanks,
Jon

As promised, a couple quick pics of the car with 35% tint all the way around and BlueBatmobile's red overlay kit with reverse cutout. I can also post up some full-sized images if ya'll need them.

Thanks,
Jon
