Default 2008 STi Seats....Am I the only Hater?

I've kept up on this forum pretty well since the car broke cover. I was psyched it turned out to be a hatch (although I'd have prefered a 3-door.) I think overall it's great and an evolutionary if not revolutionary improvement over the last model. There are a few little things I wasn't excited about: the stupid taillights but that's been well-covered here and much of the trademark pink (but curiously not all of it) being replaced with boring red.

Some of those red STi logos are, of course, found on the seats which brings me to my point. (Rant begins now...) Am I the only one on here that thinks the new 08 seats are about the worst seats ever put in a sporty car? First of all, it's lame they went to just another boring shade of gray when they used to be blue and have some character. More importantly, though, the seats are hugely wide and and have minmal if any functional bolstering (especialy at the bottom!) I know I'm smaller than average at 5' 9'', 149 and we've been over how seats are dumbed down, softened and widened for the fattie US market but these seem to go beyond that. The new addition of leather (...oooohhh) would have been better appreciated if the leather didn't look subpar for football use. The old blue seats were fantastic. Not fancy and they could have been a tad snugger but they were comfortable enough, looked interesting, and had unique grabby fabric on the more significant bolsters. I hate the new seats.

Now I don't need to be told, piss off, if you don't like them, don't buy it. I know that. It's a big reason why I haven't bought it yet, in fact. I would rather just hear if I am alone in this opinion cause I just haven't heard it mentioned much. Do you guys like the new seats or not?

I feel that they hold me better than the seats in my '07 did. The materials are fine by me, and I like the colors.

Your looking to purchase a 40k car... spend an extra 1k cash and get some Brides, Recaros, or something...

Just like with everything else I dislike about the car, I replace the items that I don't like. To me, there's not a single car on the market that has everything I'm looking for. The STi was close, so I bought one and less than 1 month later I bought new Bride seats. I also dislike the the stock tune, wheels, tires, and suspension, so I'll be changing those soon.

I could have bought an Evo with much better seats, but even those Recaros lack the theigh support and lower bolstering I need. And I wouldn't have a hatch capable of carrying a full load of track day quipment when I needed it.

It's a cliché at this point, but SOA recognizes the fact that many drivers in the u.s. are large/obese/slovenly/big bones... whatever euphemism you care to use.

I guess you've never sat in the 04-07 USDM STI trampolines before. Those were the worst seats I've ever seen in an Impreza. V4-V7 STI seats were in a whole different league compared to those POS fart absorbers.

In my opinion, their build quality is well beyond where the 04-07 seats are. They did a much better job aesthetically beefing up the interior of the 08 stis.

are you serious?

you are complaining about color ?

you mean you rather have the pastel blue and pink?

why? does it match your dress or your Hanna Montana doll set?

What the hell is wrong with you?

out of all the dumbest things to b***h about this takes the prize

this is such picky subject since everyone has a different taste for what they expect from the interior of a vehicle.

I agree with no matter how much you spend on a car your always gonna find something that you don't like about its interior... with that said, the interiors of the 08s is alot nicer than the previous models. But as many of you here on the forums can say we are talkin about a sports car. If you want a luxury feel to it then you might as well go for luxury sedan like a BMW, Benz, or Audi. Once you go to one of their Sports coupe(M3 for example) tho you do lose some of the comfort you find in one of their sedans(330). Having ownd an 05 M3. Of course these cars are in a totally different pricerange so one would expect major comfort after shelling out 60k for a sports coupe.

As many will attest, even the interiors of Porches flagship car the 911 turbo, its still not all that is crapped up to be after blowing 110k!

If your aim is to be extremely comfortable then just do your research and upgrade the interior or just go buy a luxury sedan. Remember, Subaru has to make the interiors of their vehicles around many factors... cost, efficiency... and unfortunatly lastly our own taste

So I agree with most of u... just spend some cash and upgrade the interior... griping and moning is only gonna piss u off even more

I like them a lot. I would like the option of the recaros tho. If subaru offered bbs/recaro's I would have paid for that. The only other seat I would put in would be the 2003 04 R32 seats out of the VW.

I think all STI's should have blue carpet btw

since there is a thread for this now, might as well mention it here.

aside from the pedal positioning, the side bolsters get in my arms way when I shift to 2nd, 4th, and 6th. I'm rubbing inside of my upper arm on those shifts especially 2nd. It is like those bolsters are too high. Since no one mentioned it so far it must just be me.

Love the overall feel of the seat though.
