What do you normally rent? Boxsters? Have you discovered S#?

Well mainly I wanted a single car that I could:
A. Auto-X
B. Daily Drive (BTW the Z06 gets nearly double the MPG of the STI)
C. Take to the snow

The STI was the only car that I felt would be a good compromise. In terms of power, yea it's a bit depressing. Once I man-up and leave CA for a state with better housing and more garage space, I'll pick up another Z06 without a doubt. In terms of price per performance and how much power you can make with basic mods on the Z06's, there's really nothing even close to being competitive.

S# is definitely better than S, but it's still 1/2 the HP of my Z06 and 400 pounds heavier.

You know guys I've been a Subaru owner for a long time:

85 GL 4X4 Hatchback
85 RX 4X4 Turbo Sedan
87 RX AWD Turbo Sedan
2000 Impreza 2.5RS - modified
2002 Impreza WRX - modified
2004 Impreza WRX STi - modified
2005 Legacy GT Limited - modified
2008 Impreza WRX STi - already at Stage 1

Similar to the lyrics of an old Barbara Mandrell country song "I was Subaru when Subaru wasn't cool", I've got my own opinion on this topic. I loved the 04 STi but I got rid of it because it just started to wear on me. It was my daily driver and for long trips it was tiring (stock suspension and rubber). The Legacy offered more of what I found appealing at the time and proved to be a great car. I was really not interested in the 08 STi until I started reading about how much the ride had improved. My dealer finally let me take it for a test drive and I found the 08 to be much more civilized than the 04. Of course the car has been criticized for this. This car cannot be all things to all people. I don't give much credence to these complainers or people who dog one generation of the STi over another. Both cars are phenomal cars and both cars have traits that are going to appeal to one group or another. Those who truly know the heritage of Subaru understand that they have always been kinda quirky and not made to appeal to the masses. Of course you can modify the car to meet your desire or if you hate the styling simply go buy something else. I remember when the 02 Impreza hit our shores, the huge fits most people threw over the styling (and not just for the bug eyes!)! After awhile most people said it had grown on them.

Bottom line for me - the 08 STi was just a better choice for my needs and I love the stying. To each his own.

What I find very interesting is pretty much ALL of the tuners I've talked to say the 08's are beasts and respond BETTER than previous generation STIs to mods (with that said, tuning 04-07 has got to be easier given its maturity).

If I had dime for everytime someone goes: "Wow, I didn't like it when I saw it in <insert car magazine name> but now that I see it in person, it is really bad-arse."

Seriously....
