It looks cool, but what is it?

The little vent in front of the front wheels? When I removed the intake silencer, I saw that it led to "nothing". But the fact that it does have holes in it making it functional, but for what? That entire area was kinda sealed off from everything.
What about the bigger ones behind the front tires also?

Front is to aid in drawing air through the radiator, the vents behind the wheel reduce pressure in the engine bay. All that air the front end is gulping has to go somewhere, engineers would rather it came out the sides of the car than disrupting the air underneath the car.
