Get a stage 1 or 2 and you'll be very happy with your 08. Believe me.

That's very typical of any year STI, it's not something that just started happening this year. I still get a chuckle out of watching people 'prep' an STI to do well at autox, and then along comes a bone stock STI and it turns a better time .

the question is: CAN A COBB AP MAKE THIS CAR AS FAST AND SMOOTH AS MY 06 WITH SAME MODS?? (my 06 is COBB STG2+K&N+inlet)

apart from power , it s a great car, it felt tighter on the road than my 06, much more confortable, and the shifter feels better than my 06`s stock shifter.the car feels halfway between the 06 sti and a spec b legacy in term of car refinement.

so if an Accessport will fix the engine and make it faster than my 06 , for me this is the car to have.

It felt really slow? You ran 13.26 @104 with a Stage II 06 STi . That's slow my friend. I believe there were at least two 08 owners who ran quicker times with stock cars or Stage I. You should think before you write.

Guess what -- drag racing actually does have an element of skill. Regardless of his ability (or lack thereof) to make a good run down the track, it's perfectly reasonable to compare the rolling start feel of two cars. And the stage 2 '06 would be a lot stronger than a stock '08, just like he said. That's to be expected.

You know, I'm starting to wonder about this. My '08 stage 1 definitely feels stronger than my '05 stage 1 did, but doesn't have quite the top end of my '05 stage 2 protune. That's why I want to go to the track. The evidence is in the trap speed. A stage 2 ots map might not be making very good power on his '06 or his 4-5 shift could be really slow/conservative, which will grossly affect his trapspeed.

If I was to guess, I would say that my stage 1 '08 could probably consistently trap between 103-105. 3rd gear feels a bit weak but once 4th rolls around, it pulls very nicely past 160km/h.

I'm really torn about the gearing. I like it on one hand (because the car does pull well) but somewhat miss the punch of the shorter gearing. I also don't get why they geared 4th and 5th so close...the rpms only drop by about 500. It seems kind of useless...

Thread lock coming in the near future....

I bet 50% of the people didn't put the car in sport mode (otherwise known to me as "really not intelligent mode"). The car needs to be broken in too. Mine came alive at 1000miles and the Cobb AP pissed it off.

I - Intelligent
S# somewhat Intelligent
S really not Intelligent mode

My stage 1 08' rapes my stock 06'. No comparison. Will never look back.

Actually, every Impreza our family has ever owned has taken considerably more miles than the factory recommended "break in period" to hit their stride. between 12 and 25K miles I typically see a very small increase in mileage and the engine begins to feel loose and relaxed (for lack of a better description). I even wait until around 9k miles before switching to synthetic and the cars all behave similarly, NA or turbo.

«you should think before you write» ?? you should read before you think
i said it FELT slow and regardless of my own time slips, my car feels faster than that 08 i drove that`s all.
this has nothing to do with skills, thats how it felt.
and by the way stock sti`s run 13.9 @99 at this track, for whatever reason. so i`m happy with my 13.26@104mph
track are like dynos, you can really only compare time slip on same track on same day.

peace

I don't doubt at all that the '08 will make a better drag racing platform (similar to the '07), because the ratios are better suited for that purpose than the 04-06 gearing. I'm just suggesting that it's hard to draw a comparison between two different cars at the dragstrip, two different drivers, two different tracks, etc . Plus, people read way too much into trap speed -- it is just as affected by driver skill as ET, though a lot of people talk like it's a good measure of horsepower. There's isn't any magic involved, a stage 2 04-06 STI *should* be faster than any stock '08, all else being equal. But give the '08 a stage 2 setup and it makes torque I only dream about . I wonder how hard it would be to drop in an '08 longblock and enough ECU to make it work if my '06 ever takes a dump .

Yeah, that's kinda too bad. I'm 100% in support of an absurdly tall 6th gear. I'd like an overdrive that puts the car in the low 2000's at 70 mph. I'll shift down if I need to pass someone with authority. I still find myself looking for a 7th gear sometimes when I come up to freeway speed .
