Default 08 STi - no coolant change until 137.5k/11 yrs

I was looking at the service requirements on the new STi on Subaru's website and noticed something interesting, for the 08 STi (and all '09 Subarus) the coolant is not supposed to be changed until 11 years/137k miles.

SUBARU.COM : TOOLS : 2008

Click the "Federal Schedule"

It appears that Subaru has a new "Super Coolant" that they are using. It's 11 years/137.5k miles for the 1st interval and then every 6 years/75k miles after that.

Did some digging and these turned up:

New Subaru Super Coolant? - Subaru Forester Owners Forum

TSB 09-50-07 Cooling System - Subaru Super Coolant(R) - Subaru Forester Owners Forum

2008 STi introduction of Subaru Super Coolant - News & Rumors - NASIOC

Quote:
The 2008 Impreza WRX STI and all 2009 MY vehicles are factory-filled with the new Subaru Super Coolant. This new coolant is blue in color and has an extended life of 10 years before servicing is required.

The current Subaru Long Life Coolant (green in color) CAN NOT BE MIXED with the new Subaru Super Coolant (blue in color). Mixing the 2 different types of coolants together will alter the protection requirements of the product and for the vehicle.

The new Subaru Super Coolant is required for all dealer warranty repairs to 2008 Impreza WRX STI and all 2009 MY vehicles that involve the draining and/or refilling of the engine cooling system. It should also be used when topping off of the cooling system, when installing an engine block heater, or refilling the cooling system after a collision that damaged the cooling system.

Subaru of America, Inc. will automatically ship one case (6 gallons) of the Subaru Super Coolant 50/50 mix to each dealership within the next week.

The part number for ordering purposes is SOA868V9270, which represents one gallon. This product is a 50/50 mix and does not require any mixing with water. This product must be ordered in cases of 6 gallons.

For dealers in extremely cold areas that require extra protection (below -34 degrees F), Subaru Super Coolant Concentrate is available in one quart bottles and can be ordered using part number SOA868V9260.

Dealers can order additional Subaru Super Coolant 50/50 mix and/or the Subaru Super Coolant Concentrate by going to Subarunet, Fixed Operations, Subaru Chemicals.

The part number for Warranty claim purposes is SOA635041, which represents one quart of the Subaru Super Coolant 50/50 pre-mixed product.

If you have any questions, please contact your District Fixed Operations Manager.
Still not sure I would trust running the same coolant for so long but this is kind of interesting and have not yet seen it mentioned here.

New to me... How exactly do they know it's good for 11 years? Unless it was 11 years in the making and finally done testing this year?

toyota has super long life coolant, which is pink. it isnt supposed to be changed until 100k. its funny cuz it looks the same as it did when it was brand new, pink!

we also has world standard auto tranny fluid, which is also a 100k fluid. u can change i ever 30k if u want, i would, i dont trust 100k stuff, eventhough ive seen with my own eyes that it works.

My first car ever was a 91 sentra, manual everything man. I got it for $300, I kinda miss it, wouldn't mind putting useless miles on it instead of the new STI.

lol sounds like some sorcery action here. But when something else goes wrong (pipes, radiator core, water pump, etc), you gonna have to change the fluid anyway. Unless they expect you to keep it on the side and then reuse it. I rather put new fluid in if that's the case unless this thing is like $50 a quart.
