yah, the salesman is either lying or sorely misinformed. deal with the internet sales manager. do EVERYTHING by phone/email/fax. arrange it so you only go in to pick up the keys, drop off your down, and sign the contract. i know for me, the days of spending hours at dealerships is over.

why don't you ask your salesman if he can explain to you what a holdback is....THAT'S how they can make money even though they sell than invoice. invoice is NOT the price the dealer ends up paying for the car.

This is absolutely crucial to understand when you buy a car. Walk away if you have to, and don't act too eager to plunk down your hard earned cash.
While I believe car buying should be a fun experience, the dealer needs to earn my business.

Well, I wish I could do all of that, but Subaru is solely run by Servco, that has the no-negotiation like Saturn has. The only option is to get the STi shipped here by boat. /sigh, the cost of living in paradise.

It has been stressful for the past couple months. I missed my first chance to get the STi back in Feb due to an emergency financial expenditure. So I slowly started to convert my car back to stock and sell the parts to scrounge up some cash. Finally got financially stable and then this stop-sale happens...giving me an uncertainty to dwell about. Then my dealer tells me that I won't be able to pick up the car when it arrives. The stop-sale could lift before or months after, who knows.

This monday, I got this really bad neck pain(kind where you get a cold sweat), and the doctor told me it was from too much stress.

Crap, I sound all emo now. Anyway, I will get that STi one day... I think it has the best package as a "car" for its price.

I would not go any higher than invoice. I called my dealer and asked if I could get a base model at invoice 33,655 and they did not hassle at all. I even got one with a handfull of options.

I was just offered Invoice-300 today, but I'm waiting until the stop sale finishes and I want to put more money down so I'm parting out.

Picked mine up this morning. Negotiated my trade via email and the STI for invoice minus dest. charge. Very pleasant experience!
