Default For Canadians who have 08s on order or are looking

I've mentioned in other threads how I've been trying to find a DGM '08 in Canada. My dealer told me that all the STIs coming to Canada have already arrived, and they'll try to find me one, but there's nowhere to order one because they're all here. I thought he was just trying to make sure I didn't shop around.

I didn't believe him, so I phoned around 6 or 7 dealers in Western Canada. None of them had a single STI, but all of them were willing to take my deposit and promise to get me one within 4 weeks. I told my dealer that, and he said they're lying and they'll just take my deposit and try like crazy to find me one, probably unsuccessfully.

So I didn't know who to believe and I called Subaru Canada today. They confirmed what my dealer told me. All Canadian cars have arrived. Production has ended and there are none coming off boats for Canada. If you're getting a car in this country, it's already arrived.

So I decided I really wanted the DGM, even though I could have grabbed a black or silver. So I got back on the phone and found one in another city. Coincidentally, the owner of my local dealership owns that one too, and that car just became available this morning because someone backed out and they're going to ship it here. I'm not going to celebrate until the car is registered to me, because I'm worried that stuff could get messed up, but I've been promised the car and it should arrive here next week.

This might be good info for anyone like me who wants a car in Canada. If I were starting this from scratch, I'd phone every dealership in Canada, starting from west going east, find the car, and have it shipped myself. If I had done that a week ago I'd have gotten one pretty close to here and I'd be driving it right now (I missed one in Saskatchewan by 3 days). I waited and let my dealership do it and they couldn't pull it off because nobody wants to do swaps.

Just wanted to share in case it's helpful to my fellow Canucks.

Where was the black one available? My WRB 08 STi is a an april build. How long does it take to build the car and ship it to Vancouver?

Thanks again. I seriously hope my dealership isn't giving me the run around. This being my 4th subaru and with over 12 referrals I would hope they would be straight with me. But I have a feeling subaru Calgary is going to be swiping my credit card tomorrow morning.

So far I'm happy with them, but then again I don't have my car yet.

I'd also recommend not mentioning to your local people that you heard this on the internet. When I told my guy I read about the paint issues and stop sale order, he immediately dismissed it. When I told him today I called Subaru Canada, he was extremely interested.

In fact, Subaru Canada took down my number and called me back in 30 minutes with the location of 2 DGM STIs. That's how I found mine. Subaru Canada even offered to phone my sales guy and straighten him out because they misunderstood and thought it was my guy saying he could order me one. I told them that my guy was the only one who had been straight with me.

Wow, so all STIs destined for Canada have arrived? That's crazy and kind of cool at the same time. I'm glad I got my Feb/08 DGM and so far no issues with the engine at all.

I had hard time finding a DGM in States, dealer explained that they build colors in batches and that DGM will be available later this year.

I had the exact same experience trying to find my DGM. Which, by the way, JUST ARRIVED ON TUESDAY! Sorry, I'm a little excited. Soon I'll do a writeup comparing a BMW 850i, semi-modified Skyline GTS-T type-M and an 08 STI....

Well I called my dealer and they have no clue what is going on. I've already got the ball rolling to get my car in Calgary if my dealership can give me a straight answer and VIN by lunchtime.

I too am dealing with calgary subaru... i dont know who your salesperson is but i am weary that they are telling me the truth. I wanted to get a wrb and after calling every dealer from victoria to winnipeg there were none. About 2 hours after i finished calling people i finnaly got a call from the guy at calgary Subaru. He had one in "port". I already put my downpayment down and after reading this i really hope that i actually get my car.

That's funny. It was my guy at Subaru Calgary who told me there's no such thing as "in port" anymore. I did hear that they're going to get a couple of WRB cars in very soon though. They get them from their other dealers.

They should get their story straight. I would say that if you're going to get a car, Subaru Calgary is your best bet. They're super high volume and are more likely to be able to source cars.

One more thing: call Subaru Canada to confirm for yourself. That way when you call your fibbing salesguy back you can tell them what you found out. My guy was really good in this whole thing, but if I hadn't called around and asked some questions I wouldn't have found my car. Subaru Canada will actually query their database and find out who has WRB cars for you. They did for me.

Hi guys,

I was wondering if you could give some general info on whether there is any negotiating on price possible on the STI's? I had heard previously that 42-43k was do-able but it makes me wonder if there is going to be a shortage of available cars. I will be looking at a Silver car in the next month or so and appreciate any info you can give. I am located in Calgary as well so finding a local car would definitely be preferable.
