I was under the impression that Radar detector are pretty useless now due to the laser devices they are using now. I've never owned a radar detector so I'm really only going off hearsay. Is a radar detector still worth the investment? I don't speed much but if I'm on a long trip, I'll tend to go 10mph over the speed limit on freeways. I'm a rebel.

I've got pulled over three times for speeding and have only recieved one ticket!! Pretty lucky i guess, but i think as long as you are honest and show the cop respect then they are pretty cool! Maybe its because im in LA and even Grandmas will pass you if you are going the speed limit!! LOL

The effectiveness of a radar detector is completely dependent on where you live. A good modern instant-on radar operated in a good location by a competent police officer will nail you every time regardless of any detector you have. Laser is also extremely difficult to detect in time to counter. Where I live the cops have long switched to laser and when the detector lights up it just means you've already been tagged. Fortunately the cops around here also choose speed traps that are plainly visible (so much so that they're probably not trying to actually catch speeders, just slow traffic down).

Radar detectors are doomed, enjoy them while you can (if you live in an area where you still can). I'm surprised it took this long. If the cops want to win, they will. They can afford to blow ten or twenty thousand on the radar/laser gun, we cannot afford to respond with an equally fancy detector.

Thank you very much for you reply. You confirmed my suspicions. It's a shame. Back to not speeding
