Mudflaps are ugly...what's the other option?

Seriously guys, name me ONE car on the market that comes with MUDFLAPS besides a truck...I love the looks of the 08 and the MUDFLAPS make the car look worse, they just do...your eyes go right to the flaps...not what I want to draw attention to...

Is the clear bra the best option? Will the dealer install that?

For the record, I've never owned a new car that has required so much work to "Fix" problems the factory should have solved...unreal.

You bought a "Rally" car....... what does a Rally car have on it ? Mud Flaps !

I have them on and while I may not think they make the car look better although some do, they are protecting the car fantastically. It's even keeping alot of the dirt off the car let alone the rocks.

I agree its a shame that the paint is so weak, but if you did some research its pretty well known that Subaru has weak paint. The design of the rear fender seems to be a reason the paint problems are so bad.

I had my dealer install the clear bra on the front and I know a couple other guys have had it done on the fenders as well. But that alone prob still won't stop all the rock chips unlike the flaps which pretty much seems to be keeping them all off so far.

Kaneda...seriously,this is your third thread,and the two before are kinda the same...#1-the engine runs like crap. #2 the car handles like Sh%&, and now this.I have to say your threads have drawn alot of replys,but I really think you BOUGHT THE WRONG CAR!!!! Good Luck.

Sorry to be such a complainer, but here's a list of the cars my family/me have gone through over the past 10 years:

Z06
M3
S55 AMG
2005 Viper
S2000
Audi S4
2000 WRX
2004 STI
2008 STI
E500
SL 500
Mistubishi Evo

Yeah, we're cut nuts...out of all of these, the 2008 STi has served up more problems/headaches from the get go...Paint issues, tuning problems, steering feel...the first impression with your new car should be blissful, not stressful...

Why not just get rid of the car if it doesnt meet your expectations. That would solve your problems, and save this site the waste of bandwidth.

I seriously think you should just get rid of the STI. You've complained about the STI even before you bought it. Go buy a BMW which you probably wished you bought in the first place. Stop cluttering up these forums with your regrets/hates about the car.

I've enjoyed my new STi thus far, I'm not quite sure what you are looking for. Most of the cars on that list cost far more than the STi did, so maybe your expectations are just too high. How did your family own an 2000 WRX? Do you live in Europe/Asia/Australia?

The 08 STi is not a rally car! The 08 STi is the platform that Subaru uses to develop their rally car. Short answer:

Subaru has acknowledged the paint issue and is preparing a 3M-like film kit that will be applied by the dealership. I doubt this is sufficient to stop all chips. Get a custom kit.

Personally the RA mudlaps looks 10x better in person than in pictures. I'm not totally sold on the look of mud flaps (any brand) from the rear of this car, but it's still way better than I expected and I've had people comment that they like the look.

You really should consider selling the car...

I actually agree with OP i dont like the mud flaps but guess what i still got them(don't even have the car yet). I wish subaru would just make a nice fitting mudflap for us instead of the 3 m film.

Evos have this problem too and so do a lot of cars. Im just glad there is a product there to stave off the damage while I look for a better solution
