I've never had a problem with a gear popping out....weird....

Are you driving and all of sudden you are in neutral? How does this work?

I've had my car in very cold temperatures, never had anything like you describe. No temperature is an excuse to pop out of gear -- that's a mechanical issue pure and simple. I'd have it fixed now before it gets any worse.

I hope this is not a sign of things to come. I thought the transmission was basically identical to what they've been using since '04. STI transmissions historically are nearly bulletproof.

No problem with my transmission. I find the gate to 3rd a bit vague and keep hitting 5th, which I never did in my '05, but I attribute that to driving my wife's 5spd Civic for 8 months.

I changed the title of the thread because it is a bit misleading. Please don't state things as fact without concrete evidence to back it up...and "my dealership guy said" is not concrete proof. We appreciate the information though.

The second time was my first shift from first to second, in a parking lot, when it was cold out. Honestly this has happened with every manual I've owned here. If it was popping out after a few shifts or in 4th gear, I'd be worried. But I'm not.

my second gear seems very easy to get out of when im shifting gear, its kinda pops out like its was spring loaded, its especially apparent when shifting at high rpms out of 2nd gear. but i've never had it pop out by itself tho.

Hey, no problems here, but SOUNDWISE, I do hear a slight grinding sound easing into first and especially 2nd gear... kind of annoying, like something's rubbing slightly... can you guys confirm this?

No problems with poping out of gear, but when its cold while letting car warm up, trans makes like a low rattling noise but gose away when warms up, noise gose away when clutch in, and comes back when clutch out until warm. also in second gear while doing low speeds no matter if warm or cold. but car runs fine, shifts fine... what you guys think?

Dude, your car should not pop out of gear. Ever. Period. I have driven all sort of sports cars in -10F weather in Vermont for years and have never had this issue in my 02 wrx, my old supra, or anyone else I know. Get it fixed!

My trany is a little crunchy feeling but so far no actual problems.

GRB25, i am getting the same cold tranny sound. kind of a grinding sound under idle with it in N. clutch in, or warmed up tranny, the sound goes away. did you notice that the grinding sound gets louder if you rev the motor?

no issues with popping out of gear.

I've never had this happen before on any manual I have ever owned including the 08. It gets fairly cold in Boston too.

I was really driving the car harder today with a lot of on/off throttle transitions in 2nd and 1st and I had no problems at all. One thing I did notice is the amount of engine movement though...jesus. I don't recall my '05 moving so much, even when stock, so Cusco mounts might be going in again... Does anyone know if they are compatible...they should be right?

My 2008 STI is popping out of second as well. It is happening 3-5 times a day now and only when I'm down-shifting from third at about 10-15 MPH. I'm taking it to my dealership tomorrow.
