Not sure if this is the stock tune, but under full acceleration in Sport# mode, the pull is much linear than in my 04 model but instead of revving hard to the limiter, it sort of struggles in gears 3 and 4...why is this? Feels like the turbo is either slipping or hiccuping...anyone else feel this sensation? Does it go away over time? Maybe it's the factory tune, but something just feels off...Doesn't have the same surge as my 04 model...

maybe it's because of the taller gearing, it doesn't "feel" the same as the short gears in the '04-'06 models.

2nd, 3rd and 4th gear in the '07 and '08 models have been made taller.

It's probably knocking and pulling timing, the stock tune is horrible. Do some research on it, it's all documented with graphs and datalogs already. Power delivery and tune on the 08 is WAY different than the 04, especially compared to the reflashed 04 tunes that took a couple of degrees out to avoid knocking.

10-4...the stock tune is garbage...for lack of a better word. Get a stage1 flash...most likely the dealer will never know either.

Supermarkus, that's exactly what it feels like...as if the car pulls, hesitates, pulls, hesitates...it's freaking annoying because the car is still fast, it just feels ****ty when you step on it...as if the engine wants to quit, then go, quit, then go...Should I get an accessport to correct this?

Also, WTF was Subaru thinking releasing a car like this? Never had this issue in my 04...seriously, who are they appeasing with this tune/build? Numb steering and horrible tune is one way to lose customers, quickly...I almost feel like selling this car and hoping into something more communicative/fun...

the 04 STI had pretty serious tune issues when it first came out and it appears that the 07-08 STI have their own set of issues. Mid run 04s came from the factory with a better tune which was applied to earlier build dates if you complained about pinging.

Numb steering I can live with as long as grip levels stay stratospheric. Nobody knows for sure if upgrading steering rack bushings will return the steering feel. To be certain, the steering geometry, namely caster has been increased substantially over past STI variants, it is around 6 degrees positive IIRC. Normally this gives pretty good on center feel and makes the steering a little heavier, I'm guessing this isn't the same nerf steering rack we thought it would be or the PS pump is different. I have 6.5 degrees of positive caster on my car right now and NOBODY i've let drive the car has complained about detached feel or numb steering.

get a protune or get rid of it, unless you want to blow the motor. do NOT drive it harder with the stock tune. PERIOD.

when im driving mine around it seems different everytime when i get on it.. sometimes it will pull and then once it reaches about 4500rpm just takes off.. other times it reaches 4500rpm and not kick in the pants feeling.

I noted the exact same type of acceleration with my car. Thankfully, after having read about the '07 issues and reading that some of it carried over to the '08 tune, I ordered an AP. Ever since flashing to stage 1, the car pulls way smoother and harder. Still, 3rd and 4th feel a bit weaker than my '05 just because of the taller gearing...the acceleration is still faster though (probably because the car could be making more power than my '05.)

It's been like this since the '07 model. It certainly isn't a new issue...which is kind of disappointing in itself. Still stage 1 made the car feel way better.

Yeah its the tall gears. 3rd and 4th to accelerate harder than previous STIs but you don't *feel* it.

A stage 1 flash will instantly clear this issue up.
