Default Buying a 2008 STI - some questions

Hi folks,

I've been poring over these forums for a few weeks now lapping it all
up. I'm about to pull the trigger and buy an 08 up here in Canada.

Some questions (I read the newbie buyer guide and searched already):

1. My dealer doesn't have the colour I want so I'm going to have them find one for me (I want DGM). Should I have any concerns about ending up with a test drive car? I'm worried that the car is getting scarce and if I want certain colours then I maybe can't be picky. Do people put conditions on these kinds of things? Should I insist on a brand new car? We're just getting over winter and nobody lets people test drive much, if at all, so it might be a moot point.

2. Did they really only send 350 STIs to Canada? My salesguy is trying
to scare me into doing it NOW NOW NOW. He's saying that they're pretty
scarce now. I never see them on the road and if Subaru was selling out of them I'd think I'd see a few more around.

3. Can I put off buying winter wheels until next year? Will I wreck the BBS rims if I get the tire place to put winter tires on them for this winter? I'm wondering if the water and salt is too big a risk to take for those nice wheels.

I'll probably call the guy tomorrow and lay down my deposit.

Thanks,
Stedenko.

1) dont get scared, or pressured. you won't see STI's everywhere, hell i havnt seen another in the bay area, and i know there are a lot out there.
2) ask about the stop sale issue that just popped up, and how it would affect you as a new buyer, if they try to BS you then walk away.
3) if you can wait, just order the one you want, and you'll get a car fresh to the dealer with <10 miles (mine had 3 when it arrived). makes sure it hasnt been test driven.

There are only 350 STI coming to Canada? Seems I am lucky enough that there are already two 08 DGM STI sitting in my apartment's parking.....

And if you want 17" winter wheels+tires, I can sell you my barely used set.......lol

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm going to slow it down a bit, but I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger.

I waited 5 very very long weeks to get the DGM that i wanted, which had to be ordered. Even after the dealer ordered it, they kept calling trying to get me to take the red or black one they had right away ... if you are going to pay the $$$, wait and get the color you really want....

Regarding the Turbo: thanks. I saw that thread and I'll make sure I confirm that the car I buy isn't one of the cars affected. I'm not super worried.

Regarding the color. Totally. I came to the same conclusion. If I'm going to spend this much money I should get the one I really want.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Stedenko.

I never see any other 08's in Montreal. I bought one of the very first 3 the dealer got in the West Island. I figured so much since it's really expensive up here in Canada.
DGM is excellent choice. Mine was only 2 days in the Showroom late January before I grabbed it. Good Luck!

Yup, it's your money, get the stuff you want. I'm waiting till may to get mine since there were no silver ones left. I also love the stock rims. My dealer tried to sell me the other colors, the bbs package, but I decided to get what I want. In fact, maybe it was a good idea since I waited. Hopefully the new batch coming out will have all the problems solved.

DGM was hard to get. My dealer told that they do colors in batches and right now DGM is pretty scarce - but they should produce more in that color later on -
I waited over 3 months for my STI - it's a good time to make sure you still want it and explore other options - no buyer regrets for me at all after all that time.

When i went to look at teh 08's there were 2 left, 1 DGM and the other was a demo MBP. Came back the next day and the DGM was sold, ended up getting the MBP with 600 km's on it but they gave me a set of winters rims/tires (they were on the car already) for an extra $500. No regrets, even though it was a demo, i just bought a bit longer warranty just in case. Try and get a deal from them because it is a demo. Maybe negotiate for 3M or their paint/fabric protection.

3. I would get winters when it starts getting cold out and not wait, summers will suck in the cold. BBS's will be fine in the snow, just give them a wash every few weeks and you should be fine. Also, you have a garage to store it, that would help.
