If they do offer rebuilds, I'll will ask for a check, and then take that check to one of the local subie shops and put it towards a built engine.

It would be faster for them to replace motor and less likely for the other oil related components to fail if they just replaced pistons. If it was my only real option with the least amount of hassel I would have them replace the pistons with CP ones only if The rings are still intact and no failure started on the old ones.

subaru might go for this...since if you commit to this on paper...it will void your warranty and they wont be responsible for future problems.

this sucks.. we pay good money for this car, only to have a rebuild prob done on it right away.. thats bull****...i would want a new engine...not one torn down and put back together, thats not why i bought it...i didnt pay this much to drive around on a rebuild...it would be like paying full price for a salvage title to me.

from what i know that car has to be in the shop for more then 30 days for the first year or the same issue occures 3 times...i dont think lemon law would work with this.

Right I realize that's the normal case, but having motor failure like this isn't normal either. I mean, Mazda did buy-backs on Miatas and RX-8's for being off by a few horsepower. I'm sure the brochures for STi's didn't say "now come with massive ring failure and knock at light throttle"
Then again, Nissan had a similar problem with 2006+ Rev-up 350z motors(oil consumption), and they just replaced everyones shortblock.

I would try for a buy back if possible, i just can't live with the fact that the engine being rebuild by the subaru dealers (just can't trust their mechanics). This is my first subaru and i based my decision off of the reliabilty and performance of these cars in the past. When this whole thing hits the press, we will never be able to sell our 08's in the future. Its just going to be another new model to stay sway from. Damm it, I was always told to stay away from first year productions too. I guess I have to learn my lesson the hard way.
