It makes me wonder how they are going to address the issue with effected cars in existing inventory....not to mention those who fall within the range.

If this is true, and it reaches the news stations, Subaru's future is not looking good. Sure these types of things have happened to other auto mfg's, but they are much larger companies, with a myriad of models & different engine types. This is Subaru's bread & butter engine/model. 4 out of their 5 models use this engine. very bad. The redesign of the Impreza & Forester has been so heavily advertised over the past few months. It'd be terrible if the new add was the local news station blathering about this.

/sigh
my dream of owning an STi, slipped away for the second time...

At least they know the problem. Some manufacturing component/process changed on 1/8/08. Hopefully it is an easy fix and not something internal.

BMW recalled a lot of engines because of berring issues not to long ago.

Fortunately I fall way before the recall number, but I will pay attention to what goes on in the engine bay.

And FWIW....I was planning on buying an STi here soon and don't think that will change. I will just make sure that the car I buy is not in the range listed.

That should be easy, since they aren't allowed to sell you one that is!

From what I have seen these things have a way of growing... given the vagueness of the press release, I can't imagine that at this point they have it 100% nailed down to a specific part and manufacture date.

Whether or not this is directly related to the stock tune, hopefully it will encourage them to take another look at it.

Um, he blew his engine because he was pushing it and made a mistake in the tune...his words.

My car has 250km and so far no knocking...
