not to be an thread jacking asshat but i' found out over the years that there is an awful lot the general public doesn't here about Harley issues... prolly due to the fact that 75% of the owners never put enough miles on them to actually see the faults. (Buell being the exception)

Basically there has been a couple of reported cases somewhere in the midwest that the internals on said engines were found faulty resulting in engine replacements. After narrowing down the cars in question Subaru began a stop sale on certain VINS as a precaution to their customers. If anyone has a car within the affected VINS what will happen is an inspection of the oil, check for internal engine bits within the oil and engine rev procedure, and once again an oil consistancy check. This is what I had to do today and as I suspected I found nothing abnormal while testing the brand new vehicle, oil looked normal and no internal bits were found. Again, SOA has us doing this as a precaution and would rather have us spend an hour verifying new engine integrity rather than have a new car crap out on the side of the road. After this procedure has been performed and the car checks out ok it is cleared for sale to the public. Just wanted you guys to here this from the horses mouth and not have to speculate on the status of the Stop Sale issue. Hope this was helpful.
Are you privy to more specifics on what the nature of what the problem was? (improper assembly, parts mfr'd out of spec, etc?)

I called my dealer about this today an asked if the test could be done on mine since it falls within the VIN's affected. Initially he said "no, only the ones not sold yet were privy to the test". My response..."If I had showed up a day later it would still be on the showroom floor right?" Needles to say, they will be doing the test next week. I believe the test will be more accurate on a car that has been driven a few hundred miles and had time to wear in the parts. Maybe then there will be enough material in the oil to actually see, instead of an engine that hasn't been driven?? If the test on a car that has actually been driven shows no signs, then I should be good.
I'll keep you guys posted...

This doesn't make sense. Fail at what? They'll sell at whatever price they can get, and this issue isn't well known outside these forums. They get to choose what price they sell at, and you get to choose whether or not you take your business elsewhere.

The 2.5 Turbo motor is a small part of their range of cars anyway, and overall very, very few consumers will be affected by this or ever know about it. This group here at iwsti is the hardcore group, and very much the minority.

Before the stop sale, I got mine for $200 under invoice. Anyway, I talked to service today and they simply said that if the car gets 500 miles on it, it isn't affected and is ok. Guess I'm in the clear (1k miles).

The service manager at my dealership told me that they want to do the test on my car because my VIN was on an updated list that they had received. Honestly, I can't see anything being wrong with the car, but I don't mind them doing the test just to be sure. I'll probably get them to do it when I take it in for my faulty starter; it made that weird sound again/wouldn't start the first time while I was on a business trip.

This is news to me...appearantly the test will tell if an engine is defective right away, as in brand new no miles. But you have a point in that after driving it for a while you would think defects would obviously present themselves.
As for the guy asking for more details...I probably shouldn't go into specifics and I don't want to get people going. As of now the defective engines are looking like isolated incidences but until it is 100% confirmed I better play it safe and stay quiet.
