I don´t want to go through this whole thread, but I went to my Subaru dealer (main Subaru dealer here) and well, my car might be at the docks early next week and Subaru has provided a diagnostic method to find out if certain cars are affected but no real solution to what should be done if the problem is found.

He wouldn´t go into specifics what the problem is, but did mention piston rings and crankshaft, propably main and/or conrod bearings but he also wasn´t too sure what the problem is. He did say that the percentage of affected cars is really minimal, but Subaru is taking every precaution they can. But that could be salesman talk.

No, that just means 10 instances were discovered before the stop sale was issued. It's possible that some of the cars on the lots could also be affected and Subaru is probably trying to figure out if it was just a batch/run that was affected and/or how to diagnose the engines before listing the cars as OK for sale.

How reliable is this information?

Thumbs up Re: Subaru issue turbo STOP SALE on certain 08-09 models

I just called Subaru Canada, CR told me they have a list of the "affected" vehicle. Just tell them the VIN, they can verify it for you.

Time is money and this has been very costly for them. I am sure it will be ironed out by the end of the week

I should have thought of this. I had a few other questions because I wanted to know if my salesguy is fibbing to me. Turns out he isn't, so that's awesome. The person who handled my call at that number was really helpful.

Thanks.

How reliable is this information?

Not certain how reliable the info is, but i just called my dealer and the finance manager said Subaru has the list of affected vehicles and was supposed to distribute it last night. All other cars would be released for sale. So, if I am to believe him, this wait should be over by the end of the week (knock on wood...).

In a thread on That Other Board, a Subaru rep said they know what the problem is, have a fix in place (presumably in manufacturing), and are in the process of identifying the affected units (described as "a very low number")

So, that's some info, anyway. I have a call in to my dealer to see if they've heard anything on their end, particularly about my particular STI.

If that is indeed the case, then to me it sounds like a bad batch of bearings, and they should know exactly what VINs are affected, especially if "all other cars would be released for sale". Subaru probably narrowed it down to a specific lot number of bad parts, and they would then know exactly what cars have the bad parts. Good news for those with VINs that don't have the bad parts. Probably a bottom end re-build for those that are in the ultimate range of VINs.

Just got call from dealer says my STI is ok but not able to release until SOA says so. Dealer is offering extended warranty and service maintenance plan at no charge for the 2 weeks i had to wait since i couldn't drive my STI off the lot.

Props to the my dealer.

Progress!! I like it..! Hmm... extended warrenty. I was wondering what my salesman meant by "we will make it worth your while" for having to wait. Sounds more like a good preventative measure to me though.
