That was just an arrogant fanboi reply right there.

Oh yah, and you should watch this YouTube - Mazda Furai : Race Track to see what they are preparing for 2010.
Sorry fanboy, I was putting it to you nicely that I chose my car over a FWD Mazda. Won't let it happen again.

And as someone already said, the support Mazda gave for it's RX-8 was embarrassing, that's what I meant by "backing". If Subaru didn't care about this car, we wouldn't be in this topic right now.

Hey, I traded in my 07 MS3 for an 08 STi myself, and haven't looked back. That, however, doesn't mean all of the sudden the MS3 is a lackluster car or Mazda is a mediocre auto company. I'm a fanboy of good cars and motorsport. I've got an STi and an RX-8 in my driveway. Both great cars. You should learn/give respect where it is due, just not bash other cars because they aren't the one you own.

Holy Christ on a bike, read my first post and point out where I "bashed" it. Please, for the love of god find where I bashed the MS3.

I absolutely respect the MS3. I've seen what it can do, and I compare it lovingly to the SRT-4. But, just like the SRT-4, the MS3 is one of those cars that had GREAT intentions, and a perfect body/engine to work with, but seemed to just sit on the fence of performance and cheaper practicality with FWD. Whereas with the STI, you have the backing of a true enthusiast brand.
Face it, I honestly and with reasonable opinions, simply chose the STI over the MS3, AS DID YOU, and as anyone who makes a big $ decision, they have reasons. I didn't flip a coin. Besides, this being my first STI, and coming from a 350z, I have no extremist loyalty to any car.

Also note the lack of "thumbs down" and "ROFL" smilies from my posts.

Last post on this, then back on topic.

I was referring to your comment about Subaru being a real enthusiast brand, therefore implying Mazda was not. That was just an arrogant comment. Then the comment about being on the "fence of performance". For cars that are very close to each other in practical conditions, I just didn't agree.

Back on topic.

My dealership has also not heard anything about the second VIN range for this. I also had a friend of mine who works for a Subie dealership check and he didn't see that second one either.

Hey atleast your dealership knew about the first batch! I swear I'm sitting in there feeling like I'm telling the President we went to war, and he's saying, "Well, that's not what I was told."

In fact, the voicemail on my phone from the lady that sold me the car was like this, "So I hear you found out about our little problem".

The STI buys you bigger wheels, better safety, a better track car in general, AWD, and overall more tunability. The biggest drawback of the MS3 is it being FWD with a large amount of torque.
Good point

but we can see what you picked

Yeah, but I wish this thread existed. I really am cross shopping these two cars right now and this has been super useful. Sorry for starting it though. Bad place for it.

I dont think you would be dissapointed with the mazdaspeed3 until you see an STI on the other side of the intersection snubing you.

Start a new thread if you want to discuss the MS3.

Other thread started. Sorry, not sure how to link but it'll be there in the 2008 STI section.

Today I was driving my 08 down a long gentle hill, and with my foot held perfectly still on the gas and RPMs around 3,000-3500 I noticed that there was almost a bucking sensation going on. Not real bucking like if you drop your RPM's too low but definitely a noticeable accelaration/decelaration. Is this my ECU messing with my engines timing because it is sensing knock events?? Is this a symptom of this problem? My car is within the original VIN range.

If not, what is it?

Completely normal. Subarus (as well as many other brands) have had this kind of behavior for years. It's less noticable if you don't cruise at high RPM in lower gears.

But what causes it? Why is it normal? What other car companies do this? 3000-3500 doesn't sound like "high rpm" to me.
