they have been using the 2.0L for decades now, the 2.5L is practically a new engine, introduced in the 04 STi

so far, this mod has been working out well (and no heat issues like some were concerned about).

The missing part on backorder from Japan is a "stop sale" issued by Subaru. That is just what they are telling customers to not freak anybody out.

I wouldnt blame you for feeling a bit sick, this is not a great situation. my 2 cents would be to be patient and see what the details turn out to be. When the info on the issue & the fix is clear, if you are not feeling happy with it in any way, then get the 2k back & move on.

I know what you guys mean. I just got off the phone with my dealer and made the deposit for mine that hopefully will show up at the end of the month.

I also asked him and they seem to have NO clue on what subaru is going to do. He even said they might replace those cars but was not sure what the solution is going to be.

He did seem to imply that the issue is for a certain number of cars built within a certain time frame and that the new new ones are fine or at least that is what he says..

So, they sold you a vehicle that was part of the stop-sale? They should have known that by then, so it sounds like they wanted to make the sale regardless. That was one day after the annoucement came out. I guess it is possible they didn't read it, but the fact the salesman tries to sugar coat the issue by saying it is simply a "back ordered part from Japan" rather than an internal wear issue causing failed motors that Subaru still doesn't know the cause of makes me wonder. I would tried to get out of that sale if possible - call SOA.

IMO, in order for Subaru to actually stop selling these cars, they must anticipate taking a SUBSTANTIAL financial hit on all of them that were already sold. It sounds like they have already acknowleged internally that drastic action will likely be required. Like everyone else here, I'm very anxious to find out exactly what's going on.

On another note, last night I gassed mine up (ouch) and drove the c*** out of it anyway - its just so much fun. I also tried to reproduce the "knocking" around 3000 RPM that has been discussed here. Nothing.

wash your car. inspect the bottom part of the seam between your rear door and rear fender flare. i had my car for 200 miles when i noticed it. i would have never noticed it had i not read about it here because there were only a couple paint chips. but because i knew where to look, i could see a couple chips. if you have no chips at all, you are lucky.
