Have a couple of questions:

Is there an actual Service Bulletin number we can reference to when contacting our dealer? (my dealer has no idea what I am talking about)

What is "E-QMR"?

thanks

there is something smelly with these bulletins...I try to explain:

1. the first delivered STI´s were 2,0 ltr in japan, correct?
2. the second market was the US-Market with 2,5 ltr
3. in Germany, Switzerland and Austria the delivery begun around march...let me explain, I´m a mod in a german Subaru-Forum, and in the german-spoken region was only one!!!! STI MY08 engine failure...this car was abused for drifting while a drift event (front summer tire, rear winter tire), and only drifting left turns (idiots!), has happened one week ago
4. searched scoobynet (England)...no engine failures...sales begun around march
5. searched rexnet (Australia)...no engine failures...I don´t know when the sales startet in Australia

Please explain, like I´m five years old:
where the hell are the foreign engine failures??? Never heard of it!

Tell your dealer to check the front page of Subarunet.com. There is no actual bulletin number yet, just a message to stop sale, and instructions on what to to and to wait for further instructions on those vehicles that have the concern that is listed.

An E QMR is just a way we track vehicle concerns.

You are looking too far into it.

Hmm, I need to go check the new STi then.

Subaru should have just never changed from the 04/05

I hope when it comes down to it its just a crummy tune. Even better yet it would be a stage 1 flash from perrin or cobb, but that aint gonna happen. It would be nice to get a reflash from the dealer anyway just to see if trumps the stock one.

Alex, weren't the 04's prone to some type of failure aswell? Since it was the first 2.5 introduced it had some bugs, I heard.

05-06 STI's are officially the most reliably sound.

The 04's had too much timing advance and the dealer would reflash them and pull 2 degrees of timing out.

Maye just a bit of paranoia but I just took mine out for a bit.
After the drive I have 109 miles on the clock.
I did what was suggested a few posts ago about 2nd and 3rd gear around 3k and blurp the throttle a bit.
I did not hear a knocking type sound, but more of a growl. But it was only at 2800-3000rpm's and then it went away as the revs climbed, and seemed to be more pronounced when the revs "fell" to 3000-2800rpm. I did not have this growl on my 08 WRX. I know what detonation sounds like as well as piston slap and this is neither. But I also do not have any experience with boxer engines other than the 08 WRX I bought in late Jan.
I have always heard people say that they love the "boxer growl" and I'm assuming that this is what it is. But shouldn't the growl be pretty much all the time and not at a certain rpm? (sorry, this probably belongs in the NEWB section, but since we have an issue at hand and at this particular rpm, I thought I would ask).

so let me see if i got this straight and sum it up.
1) this is real but not every car is affected its only a possability within the vin numbers not a guarantee
2) we dont have any solid information that says this is a piston ring, only speculation mainly because it is not yet on subarunet
3) the second update with additional vin numbers is also not confirmed yet
4) subaru is taking alot more forword action than that of many other auto makers (Mazda has been noted)

please up date me if I overlooked anything
Blackfang maybe you can help me out?

They were prone to all sorts of issues, I was merely making a joke

All,

I just got off the phone with my salesman who sold me my car. I have his cell number and when I called him this AM, got him out of bed. I asked if he had heard of the Stop Sale, he said he was off the last 2 days and would call me back as soon as he got to work and found out anything. He did call back and confirm a stop sale. He did not indicate which VIN range, but doesn't matter to me, I'm effected with the original range. He contacted the district sales manager and he stated that they would know more on Monday or Tuesday and would keep me in the loop. This is the northern CA region. More info as I get it. I also emailed SOA and will post when and if I get a response.
