So the Customer Service rep is requesting VIN's to do tracking on these problems. Since no one wants to post their VIN in a forum, shoot me a PM with you email address and I will forward you the email I have going with the rep. Rather than having different people reporting problems to different reps I think we will get better response if all our complaints go to the same person.

The interface is horrible. Even when it works perfectly, having to push the damn arrow up/down button to scroll through albums/artists is a joke when you've got the right-side knob right there. Very obvious this was NOT done to make the customer happy, just another feature they can print in the brochure.

Oh yeah, the cable is so short, I need to lose about 20 pounds to be able to contort my body to connect/disconnect my iPod. Genius!
Hallejulah, I'm not the only one who thinks whoever designed such a short cable should be strung up.

Okay so I emailed SOA and will be sending them more detailed info re: firmware versions and things like that. I've been using a 4th gen today and it seems to work as advertised, turns off when the car turns off and all that fun stuff. I'm gonna borrow someone's iPod touch for a few days to do some data gathering and then forward my results to the SOA agent I'm speaking with.

Yep, I agree,
Bad place to put a short cable.
Can't even turn the iPod off or pause the thing when I want use another mode. Switch modes to CD or FM and the playlists keeps going. Does not turn off when I shut the car off. Gotta reset everything everytime I start the car.
I need a check from SOA.

You mean the ones that are not likely to work properly with our cars? I think SOA is waiting for Apple to release 2d Gens so they can cut a deal!

Haha. About as priceless as learning that mine is supposedly "in the mail" and will arrive in about "two weeks". This was more than 3 weeks ago.

My mother inlaw just bought an 09 Forrester with navi. Is there a difference between using the ipod connection from the head unit vs using the audio/video outputs that are located in the center armrest? When I used just the 2 audio to ipod connection, nothing showed up on the navi screen but the music was audible. Not sure if the STi with navi has the same setup. Do I have to buy the "Subaru" ipod connection to be able to change music and such through the navi screen or would it work if I bought a 3-way connection to incorporate the video along with the audio inputs. Any help would be great!

Did you receive a tracking number? What can Brown lose for you today might have struck again.

My iPod arrived exactly as the email indicated.

cookin: the audio connector in the center console is simply a connection so you can play music through the head unit. You'll have to control the iPod manually. I'm not sure that the current iPod interface kit will work with the navigation system yet.

Bump to note that the latest iPod update for my iPod Classic seems to have somehow fixed the problem with the iPod not turning off when the car/radio is turned off in my 08 STI. The interface is still fairly poor, but it's usable, and finally I can say that it was worth the $130 or so I paid for it.

I have plugged 4 ipod's in my adapter. Zero have worked. The location for operation should be illegal IMO. I need to call SOA and get a refund and or have the dealer relocate and fix it.

Sounds faulty to me. Where is your cable located? Mine, like all of those I've seen so far, is in the center console. Some have complained that the cable is far too short, but mine seems to be adequate -- I can sit my iPod Classic on on bottom of the compartment or angled in a number of different ways.

Again, not a great solution, and the stock sound in the 08 STi is mediocre at best, but it'll hold me for a while, until I decide what after-market HU to put in.

Good luck with the refund. They basically reviewed everything I complained about and said since I was using the latest firmware for my iPod they don't see a problem and I was SOL.

I found mine wasn't shutting off my iPod with the car off either. I'm pretty bummed about this. Then when I went to run with my iPod, everything out of the miniplug was garbled, the only way I could get clear music was through the usb plug. I'm not happy at all. It sucks that I didn't purchase this independently, now it's in my financed amount
