Default Opinions?

Hey guys, I've been drooling over the 2008 Sti for about 2 weeks now and really wished that I was not 17 years old. I recently bought a car that fit my budget (2008 Toyota Tacoma Base model). Now the new Sti is sexy as hell, and I decided to lurk around other websites to see what others think of it. Turns out, a lot of people don't like the look of it. In fact most of the posts that I read were bashing the wagons look. I see nothing wrong with it....The reason this bothers me is because it is changing my mind. For some reason, the more people say they hate it, the more I start to dislike it too.

Every one has their own opinion. Don't dislike something because people dont like it. I think the new sti's look good but i just dont like the back lights.

It reminds me of my fathers M coupe. That car was hidiously wonderful. I am getting use to the looks of it, but still bought it for what it offers over my 04 STi.

well... i agree that most people dislike it. and a lot of them are previous STI owners. i think its because its a drastic jump from the sedan to the hatch, not subtle changes here and there. the only thing i really hate about it is definitely the tail lights. and the gas mileage (but who can really change that??)

One of it's biggest drawbacks (minus the whole "OMG HATCHBACK!") is the taillights which can be fixed for $53.

A white STI w/ the red taillight film is just so sexy, and my film should be here in a couple days!

Who says the other versions of the sti look good? I think that Subarus have always been ugly as sin. Thats what makes a Subaru a Subaru.

Great description !!

alot like nothing else...err forget the exact slogan.

I still think its an incredible looking car. Just ugly enough to keep your attention. Kind of like a beautiful woman....the ones that really stick have some little bit that just doesn't look right

As to what other people think about the 08 STI... I'm digging that they don't like it. Set that tivo up for american idol. I hear thats popular too.

Good choice on your truck...hard to go wrong with a toyota truck. Had them in my old company. One day a driver called in and said the engine quit. Told him to check if he had gas. Said he did so I asked if he had oil. No oil. Added 4 quarts and drove that truck another 100k miles. amzing.

calm down ok by the time you can afford a new sti the design will probably be changed maybe even a new platform. You could look into buying an older sti with over 30k miles. I've seen a few for low 20s.

I totally agree that ultimately these are OUR cars, not anyone else's, so get what YOU like. But at the same time, I do find a good deal of people saying "who cares what others think, just get what you want..." and although I see the truth in that, I also think it's downplaying the ultimate truth that that we are human, and social beings who WANT other people's attention and WANT people to be attracted to what WE have. Let's not kid ourselves...

That said, Get the STi

One of the reasons we're all on forums like these (aside from the main point of getting suggestions/ideas/help) is that it's a social thing. We get to connect with people who have the same passion, and even for the same exact car...people who appreciate our car amongst society who basically doesn't care or worse, thinks we're all little annoying delinquent racer wannabees.

Get the car you want, find a community that works for you -- consider modifying the car to make it truly yours and unique -- enjoy driving every day, and be happy! Good luck bro.

You dont buy an sti for looks. Lets face it, they are ALL ugly. IMO the '08 is less ugly.

For pretty cars, look at 350Z, audi TT, ferrari 360, bugatti veyron, spryker, etc. Subaru doesnt know how to make pretty cars. Its just something you deal with when owning one. What they are great at, and better than some of the cars I've listed above, is performance, reliability and fun factor. The 08 I own is simply amazing and I am really happy I bought it. I'm really enjoying this car and when my z06 comes out of storage, it will be tough deciding which car to take each day.

The car does get a lot of looks and good comments from people, and if you havent seen it in person, please go take a look at one, this car does NOT photograph well. Try and see a white/gold bb - the best color combo, IMO.

When people bash this car its usually one of three things:
-They own a pre '08 sti and are trying to rationlize their, now old, car.
-They own a lancer
-They havent seen the car in person.

haha. I'm a so called "old-car" owner who doesn't like the 08. But it is not because I'm trying to make myself feel good. Belive me I love my sedan and not waiting for the 08 has to have been the best decision I've ever made. After all, I "only" payed 31k for my new sti.

But if I were in the market again I don't think I'd mind the 08 look too much. People just whine a lot. OP: I have seen very very few people who look at a subaru and say it was good looking. I actually find the front of the 08 to be so damn sexy, and that scoop is sooooooo much better looking than mine.

It's like a girl with nice boobs but not so nice ass. Just look at the parts you like and don't mind the rest
