FYI - I found a link to the '08 towbar accessory on the Australian STI site:

"Part No:L101SFG000
RRP: $649.00
RRP (with fitting): $731.50
Components:Available in 50x50 configuration. Maximum towing capacity (without trailer brakes) 650kgs , (with trailer brakes) 1200kgs. Maximum vertical towball download - 75kgs."

Subaru Impreza WRX STI WRX STI Hatch - Accessories - Subaru Australia

That's a towing capacity of 2645 lbs with brakes, 165 lb tongue weight. I'm more interested in eventually fulfilling my fantasy of towing a Caterham with my STI ... so this is probably more than ample for bikes, if the part can be imported to the US.

cleophis: Send Jim Childs at cheammotors.co.uk an email and see what he can do for you. Take note that Jim can take a while to return your email. I'm sure that it would be cheaper to ship that hitch receiver from the UK than it would be from Australia or Japan.

I honestly thought of going this route myself, but the thought of the shipping cost for the hitch receiver scared me off.

I wish... I'm in Geneva and it's been raining all week. Had a great ride up Le Saleve last weekend though!

I finally go the bike rack on the car. The Thule Echelons need a small spacer so it will sit flush on to the Subaru cross bars.

Photo of said spacer:

Looks so sweet on the STi. So I am thinking about painting my OEM Cross bars flat black on my 08 DGM. Since the Silver stand out so much. What do you guys think?? Will the paint stick to the cross bars??

You'd have to use a primer that works on aluminum.

Another route would be to go to a local sign shop and have them cut you out a piece of flat black adhesive-backed film that is the length of the bar and the width of the circumference from the slot on one side to the slot on the other. It would be a piece of cake to wrap them, and you'd probably end up with a better looking finish.

Do you know if they confirmed STI fitment? The diagram show's the single outlet muffler, hope they clear the quad tip design. Let us know?

**Nevermind, just read the part that say's hitch will not fit STI models**
