All the techs I talked to at my dealership said to just drive the car how your going to drive it. So I flashed my ecu the second night I had it and never looked back. So far the car has 200 miles on it and is driving like a champ, so thats my two cents.

Drive it like you stole it and dont put synthetic in it. Seriously...

I drive my STi hard and ive had no problems. I cant remember how many times ive autox'ed. I use regular old dino juice and I dont burn a lick of oil. 70,000 miles on mine with 60K of those at stage II+

I think I call bs on 450 miles. That would be 29mpg or over.

Swapped over to synthetic at the first oil change. 1,300 miles, Motul 5w40.

Babied (<4k) up to 800, gradually had fun the rest of the way. Only saw redline a handful of times, don't really need to do have fun around my city.

My guess is this has to do with how different vehicles performed for for certain people over the years. Many car manufactures will only warrantee your car if you run synthetic. Synthetic will not break down as quickly as conventional from heat. Turbocharged cars run SO much hotter than NA cars. And with the newer ones running leaner to meet emissions/mileage they are getting even hotter.

My stage two VW would see EGT's as high as 930C, and with a more dangerous tune spikes in the 990's.

While a car running stock may never see the temperature to burn off oil, a stage one or two may run the duty cycle of the turbo closer to max. I know that was the case on the little k03 I had.

Also note that while EGT's may be safe during datalogs you should also consider that things tend to heat soak or bake after you shut off the car. I assume these cars run the oil pump after the car is shut off?

Anyhow, my take on whatever you use, just check your oil level once a week and note its consumption rate.

I babied my VW during break-in and it drank a quart almost every 2k. While others that beat it out of the dealer lot never had to add any. Im interested to see how this car does. I'll be using Mobile 1 since I bought a ton on sale at Sams, and thats the same we run the the wife's RDX. I'll be collecting oil samples with each mod and have them analyzed at Blackstone labs.

Ive seen many many threads where people switch to synthetic and start burning oil. Subaru's just like the old analog stuff. My case is just empirical...all I use is the ol school stuff and ive never had any problems, and dont burn oil.
