Default DCCD <=> Gas Mileage

Today it was raining a bit so I put my car in auto[+] and noticed my gas mileage according to the trip computer was 21.6mpg(avg). When I have it in auto[-] it normally reads 22.8mpg. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know if this effect is real and what causes it?

DCCD to gas mileage is only noticable during highway driving... as far as city driving i think its worse but not noticable... someone people have not seen any difference at all so i guess its all from personal experiencing but i know for my car highway driving is increased mileage with low DCCD

So would it follow that DCCD on manual at the lowest possible setting would give the best possible mileage?

DCCD has nothing to do with gas mileage. Any changes you notice by altering DCCD settings is coincidental. Especially on the highway .

DCCD in auto is going to already have it at that point unless you start loosing traction. DCCD controls are useless unless you want to do cookies or lock it in snow.

And by coincidental you mean by changing from auto[-] to auto[+] the trip computer gets confused and consistently displays coincidentally different information?

I do a lot of highway driving (~90 miles round trip) on the occasions that I have to go to work.

So then the trip computer has an input regarding the DCCD position? Can someone explain the "coincidence" since it cannot possibly be something that is actually occurring. What is the basis for calling it coincidental anyway? Is there anyone that can provide a technical basis for their position?

when you are rolling down the highway... your differentials have almost NO effect on anything... becuase you are moving in a straight line... therefore there is no added resistance and therefore no lost gas mileage

I completely understand your point, but I fail to see why the trip computer would "coincidentally" vary the values it displays with respect to the switching between auto[-] and auto[+].

Inaccurate as it may be, it still registers the above mentioned differences between auto+/- in a consistent manner.

i wish i had an answer for why it changed, because im 99% sure it doesnt matter.

the speedometer is inaccurate, the gas gauge is inaccurate, the water temp is an estimate. must i go on? do NOT rely on that to tell you your actual mileage.

I wholeheartedly encourage you to do further research. DCCD is a topic that has been misunderstood since the beginning, and so it gets hashed out repeatedly, everytime somebody new comes along . There's a *LOT* of data you can dredge up about it with a search. Once you work through that and understand the function, you'll see exactly why it won't change your mileage, and especially why it would never change it on the highway if it even had any effect at all. Happy reading!
