I am basically at stage 2 with my 2005 sti with the exception I have a protune done to my car instead of off the shelf mapping. Wheel hp 295 and 309 lbs torque on a AWD mustang dyno which that dyno shows lower numbers than a regular dyno) My 0-60 is 3.4 seconds.... If you go stage 2 sti with a protune you will kill that 135i at stage 1 !!

Why do you like the C5 Z06 better than a C6? Price tag? hehe My dad has a C5 and a C6 Z06, fantastic cars and I'm sure you'll be happy with a vette

probably because a C5 z06 can be had for under $25K and a C6 ZO6 is still $75K+

Vette wins hands down but again its in a different class than a 1-series, STI, or EVO.

I actually own the c5 Z06. There is no other way to put it, its an amazing car. I was excited when the c6 came out but disappointed when I went to drive it. They softened the car, made it more.. usable... quiet, easier to drive, grown up. It doesnt _feel_ as fast. I like my c5 z06 because its rauckous, loud, explosive. It takes skill to launch and drive it. I just cant us those terms to describe the c6, so I stayed with the c5. I normally change cars ever 3 years, but I've owned the Z for 4.5 years - the longest I've ever owned a car with no foreseeable sale in sight.

The problem is that there is literally nothing in its price range that has the fun factor, exhiliration, looks, etc. I've loked at everything from 911's to the GTR, M3, etc. there is just nothing out there right now that is worth upgrading to under $70K. Trust me, I've looked. The only car I'd consider sub $100K is the new z06, but even that car has lost some of the viracity of the c5. I've driven it extensively, on and off track. Its great, dont get me wrong, but its not worth the extra $30-40K over my car, and really not worth it over a z51 c6, IMO, especially when you can get very close to z06 HP with a couple K in mods (and tune) to a c6.

Cars these days are turing soft and its the rough nature of the c5 Z06 that made me keep it. There is something alive in that car the puts a smile on my face everytime I plant my foot. I just love it.

To compare it to the 08 STI, well you know this already, you really cant comapre the two cars. They are both really interesting to drive and meet the fun factor mark well, but the c5 is much more car. I playfully think of the STI as a kid's race car, but the z06 is made for men. The advantage of the STI (and the reason I bought it to replace my s2000) is that it has 4 seats and a nice trunk. The z06 has a surprising amount of trunk space for a sports car, probably first in class, but the is just no way to haul a child and wife around. It makes a perfect third car. If you need 4 seats occassionally, just go buy a beater.

Saw the 135i in person today first time, gorgeous... fully optioned, $46K.
I'd take a base $35K MSRP 135i with M package, total of $36K, thats it; an awesome deal. Id take that in a heartbeat over the 08 STI.
Dinan tune, yes 380HP/400ftlb, insane.

the 135 is beautiful and easy on the eyes...its fun to drive and at 100 it feels like 30...even in the turns...i had fun on a test drive at one of our clients...i am definitely sold on the 135...

The 335is dyno at 275whp pretty consistently stock dynojet. With just ecu mod, 320whp is normal on a dynojet. Either they are highly underrated from the factory or very small driveline loss. I also think there is more than one mustang dyno showing about 310whp for a 335x (all wheel drive) with light mods. 335i with just ecu mod and maybe drag radials usualy run mid to upper 12s at 110 or so. No reason to think the 135 will be any slower. At 150 lbs lighter, probably faster

OP: I Feel the exact same way and am looking to part with my 04 STI....I was comparing the same cars and was probably going with the Evo X or an 08 STI until I happened upon a killer deal on an 05 C6 Vette with 8K miles for like 25K (i know...you all hate me...its from a family friend). I do not have a family so I think this is the best choice for me..esp since I just moved to SoCal from NJ. The Evo X trans issues are beginning to scare me although its performance at the track over the 08 STI still has me interested and I think it looks kinda mean. Unfortunately, I think Subaru has gone down hill lately, esp with that new recall. This STI is my 4th Subie and probably my last for a while.

as follow up to my last post^^^^^^

well I test rode/drove an 08 Evo X tonight and I was so floored by the entire car (esp handling) that I traded in my STI on the spot and took home an 08 Octane Blue Pearl Evo X!!!!!! seriously, this thing handles like nothing else, I TRIED to loose it around numerous turns at 50-100mph and it just sticks like glue due to the AYC....never thought id buy a Mitsu after 4 Subies, but the whole Subie vs Mitsu thing is really immature that I realized and a great car is a great car!

Nice! I'd take evo x or 135i over the new 08 hatchback anyday!

I can get a good deal on a 135i with everything I want the price is around 33-34k if I order it.

But I really kind of hate to buy new cars. Found a 2004 sti with 40k miles on it and the car already has some mods.

I am struggling with which route to take.

Definately the cost of BMW mods are a turnoff. Why are BMW superchargers $8k+ and everyone else $4-5k.

I was also looking at just buying a 2009 Mustang because of the lower cost of mods. I've seen tuned Mustangs hang with BMW M3s on a road course and no question they are awesome for a drag car.

I'm impressed you can get a 135 even with no options for that price. Do you have a friend at a dealership or what?
