Yeah the G8 GT look's like one awsome ride, 400hp+ LS V8 rwd 5 speed auto or 6 zpeed manual family 4 door that is just as fast as a sti and handles like a bmw for under $30k

I say if you have only have a few snow days go for the 135 stage1 gets you to 380hp/400tq. If you do outdoor sports or have more than one kid I say go with the sti.

If your willing to wait why not look at the new genesis coupe. As lighter the 1 series 300whp, and costs just 25k.

I thought it handled like a truck and weighed 4000 pounds.

im not gonna say its ugly, but i'd rather get a used M3. much nicer looking.

~~and i love the fact that when i want to hit the trails on the bike all i have to do is fold down the back seats. in my VW i had to do that plus, remove the front tire...and it was still cramped.

No way the 135i is A) as quick as the STI or B) with a stage 1 gonna outrun a stage 2 STI. I'll believe it when I see it.

The G8 is really a sweet deal but doesn't handle as well as the other cars (its was on my short list as well).

The Vette is one of my dream cars (a Z06 or GTR) but completely in a different league and a B!TCH to insure because the body is made of fiberglass. My insurance (completely clean record, 30 years old, etc.) would have been close to 3k and it doesn't change. My STI is less than half of that.

I'm with the other post about the 135i, its on like DONKEY KONG!

Just from the rough numbers, it's plausible:
ECU refresh for the 135 claims 384hp and 421ft-lb at the Flywheel (1 Series :: 135 Coupe (E82) 2008 :: Engine Tuning :: Performance Engine Software/Boost Upgrade)
it's crazy expensive for a off the shelve reflash, but you get to keep your warranty.

From a post here on a Stage 2 STi 256hp and 294ft-lb at the wheel.

So lets say the drive train lost on the 135 is 30% you get 268hp 293ft-lb at the wheel, RWD car usually have at most 20% drive train lost. I use a bigger number just coz it's not done on the same dyno and the same environment. It's not that hard to believe...

Edit: Also there's youtube video of 135 on a dyno, stock pull 279.4hp, 295ft-lb.

OP:
nice comparison.

135i is nice and all but honesly, I'd never buy one. the 335 is 335 times more a car and the price difference is worth it. I don't know about a 135i stg1 outrunning a stg 2 sti. Did somebody say 380hp on the stg1 bmw? that's bhp I take it because if it is whp, M3 owners sould jump out a building. a 380bhp on a stg2 sti is quite common.

but maybe it can. so? want bang for the mod buck get a freaking cobra or vette.

You are wrong on insuring the z06. I own one and my insurance is less than 800/yr. You need a different insurance company!

I wouldn't doubt either of these being possible.

I highly doubt the BMW will be as reliable modded as the Subi is.

BMW's arent known for their reliability, and turning up the boost levels isnt going to help either.

I would never buy a bmw and have an intention of modding the car.

Try living in NJ and under 40....I guarantee its not 800/year if its your DD! I've had quotes from Geico, State Farm, NJ Manufacture's, etc.

135i, looking at the numbers I concede that they are probably pretty close. A stage 1 135i == stage 2 sti it seems after doing some more research...

Man the 135i is so small. I agree about the BMW reliability comments, they aren't reliable (I'm sure I will get blasted and people will tell me stories of their BMW lasting 150k+ with no problems) and they DEFINITELY aren't reliably modded without some serious bucks - see Dinan.
