Default stock foglights upgrade to hids

i was wondering if anyone has done this yet? im buying a set of 3000k yellow hids from my friend thats bulb size 9006 or hb4 which should be the size thats for the fogs on the 08, i was wondering if anyone did this yet? or changed anything? the main question is do you guys know if this is a direct plug and play or is there any bits of modification involved? such as cutting n soldering of wires etc? thanks

it's a pretty much a simple install. only thing is basically power and ground that goes to the fogs. But for Bulb safety install a 20 or 25A fuse left and right in between the power lines.

I'm curious as well. I just ordered a set of Hella Xenon's for the fogs. Interesting to see how much more light the xenon's vs. HID conversion puts out. I can't see my stock fogs at all in normal night driving

I went the cheap route and swapped the useless stock fog bulbs (white fog lights??) with yellow PIAAs. That way, if I hit fog, the fog lights will actually help.

Stupid question, I know it's the law (in Cali anyway) but doesn't running the low beams along with fogs kind of work against the whole idea of fog lights in the first place?

Gil, could you please post the link or the number of those PIAAs (and some pics if you can). I went to japanparts for the yellow stocks, and at $400 a pop, I think I will go the "cheap route" also. Thanks

Got this info from the eBay page I got mine from. The part # is 13506. PIAA USA does not import them because knuckleheads would install them as headlights and DOT requested PIAA not to import these, so they stopped. This is per customer rep at PIAA-USA. Because not sold here by PIAA, no warranty
Type: 9006 / HB4 / 9005 / HB3 / HB Sold As: Twin Pack 2 Bulbs Parts Number: 13506 Wattage(input): 55
Wattage(output): 110
Color: Yellow Color Temp: 2500K Technology: Ion Crystal with XTRA Technology Note: Do not touch the bulb surface during installation.

Thanks Gil, just ordered mine too.
Any tips on the install.
How do they look?
Did it take long to deliver.

No, did not take long to deliver at all. Got quicker than I expected. I think I got about 3 days after I paid.

As for install, I had the bumper cover off to disconnect the 2d horn and just did the swap then, very easy. I'm not sure how you would do it without taking off the bumper. Don't be scared, the bumper comes off very easily. The most difficult part is disconnecting the fog light wiring while holding on to the bumper. With a person to hold the bumper for you, it would be very easy. I just used a large box to set the bumper on while I disconnected the wires from the fog lights. The only tool you'll need is philips head since some of the clips holding the bumper have the philips heads while most of the clips you just pop out with a narrow-width flat head screwdriver.

Oh, as for looks, they look great. It's a yellow tint with a hint of purple or blue. They're made for fog so they're going to work a lot better for their intended use than the stockers.

woa... take off the bumper for fog light bulb replacement? a tad bit overkill.

to do it without going extreme.

lay under the car, there are 2 side splash guards infront of the front wheels. take off the one clip closest to the front, and there is one other phillips style clip beside one of the two tow hooks. peal the splash guard back, and do the bulb replacement. it will take you maybe 5 mins a side, depending on how fast you work.

yah, that sounds better. I had no choice but to remove the bumper because I REALLY wanted to disconnect my horn. But in reality, taking the bumper off is very easy, kind of scary before you do it, but very easy.

Thanks guys. I will post pics as soon as they arrive and as soon as I have them installed.
Cheers.
Btw, I am thinking of changing the high beams also. Any ideas?

Good alternative to HID for the high beam...although not speaking with first hand experience.

HIR Headlights 9011 9012 bulbs
