Oh, and no problem with using me as a reference. The person I bought mine from is Tom Guzulaitis. I believe he is the sales manager now... maybe. He told me he would give me the 1K off MRSP (still not the greatest price) because I was a returning customer. I think he would do it for anyone though.

Good luck!

Back onto the original subject, I think the price of the STI really is going to boil down to options now more than ever. Before, our STIs were pretty much the smae price since there weren't any things you could add really (besides some pop eq grp that cost less than one grand). But now this $2000 BBS package and $1800 navi are serious considerations that will also affect resale value. THe fact taht the $2000 is for jsut the wheels (and some cheapo fog lights) really makes you appreciate our current BBS wheels right? I mean, our 17X8 BBS wheels are light, forged, and awesome looking and they came with the car! I recall that being one of the great "steals" with buying the STI...but now appranelty you have to pay for them.

Are the new BBS that much better than our current ones? aNyone know the weight of them? They are 18X8.5 so I'm assuming that they're still going to be heavier than our 17"s right?

So this new asking price of around mid $35K they say is awesome since they added so much "extra stuff" with only a small increase in base MSRP. However, considering that there is considerable weight difference between the 5 spokes and the BBS (something like at least 30 lbs of unsprung weight), meaning you'd have to spend closer to $37.5K, then perhaps the STI really did get more expensive and less..bang for buck dare I say?

I think they're also trying to get away from the boy racer look and crowd. The car is much more refined, interior and exterior, so the 'upgrade' in market appeal can support the extra add ons that almost place it in a different price catagory.

If I were to buy an 08, I'd probably look to take the small step up (price wise) into something with a cushier interior and the performance to rival the STi.

What happened to the good ol' days when...

...the radio was optional...
...and the symphony of internal combustion (a la boxer) was all you needed...

Heh, but the STI has indeed moved upscale with every single year. I guess the 07 Limited hinted at the inevitable.

They should make an 08 Limited that is the exact opposite...and call it the 08 eXtreme or something. Rip out all the leather, navi, and audio stuff, sound deadening, heated seats, and offer it like a WRX TR (for less money) or S2000 CLub Racer (for more money)or seomthing. Oh and add the huge WRC wing back on, add RE070s back on, and get rid of that quad exahust stuff. Oh, and paint the brake calipers gold again and the STI logo back onto the TMIC.

Your post is exactly why I bought my 07 before they're all gone and we're left with 'grown up' STi's.

grown up sti's? lol. im 20 years old and love that i can bang girls in the wagon. I love the idea of the shaggin wagon. The old sti was great, but i hated that it was my L on steroids. and you couldnt properly break off a girl in that car. At least now you can slay her old school. If anything this car is set up perfectly for a college going guy, But i will admit the 40k tag is crazy. And does navi hinder resale value? i heard it does. can someone let me know?

First off, you can do the deed in the older cars. The new car would be a bit easier though. I dont see why navigation would not be appealing for resale? and if it is, then take it out and sell it seperate, I am sure there will be tons of factory HU's on Ebay within months, and there will be plenty of people who would like a factory navi unit!

Perfect for a college guy.. Hmm, well I am a college guy, and I do love my STi, but I would honestly have to say a 2001 honda civic would be the perfect college going guy car. Great on gas, dont have to worry about you buddy puking in it, dont have to worry about stains from "breaking off a girl" cheap insurance, and heck nobody in college should really own an STi to be perfectly honest. Unless you have some $$, college is a pretty big drain. I work full time and go to college full time. Only reason I can afford my car. Well that and I paid for it in cash so I really only have an insurance and gas payment.

Anywho.
40k for a college guy car =
3.5k for a college guy car = FTW

And also, it is somewhat grown up, but that does not mean you cant buy the "younger" version with no options. you dont have to have navi if you dont want it!

I see what your saying man. I also goto college and work full time. I agree but what im getting at is if you can afford it, get it. If you cant dont get it. This is not something i advise ppl to get if they only make min wage. What im saying is, that with all it has its a great college car, as for stains, thats why chicks have mouths! LOL. but then i agree with ya. i pay 25k for school and half a mortgage and wanna buy an STi, its not a small purchase, but its not a bad purchase. I had an L for highschool and the first 3 yrs of collegeim ready to move on.

If you lived on your own, you wouldn't need to splurge $38k for the privacy of a humper wagon.

I'm waiting a year after the debut to let the hype die down, then buying a base model. I still wish I had my '06 with all of the goodies I had on it.

To satisfy my own curiousity, I requested pre-order pricing for the 2008 STI from my local dealership. Here is a summary of the response:

32,755.00 Base model
34,532.00 w/BBS wheels
36,130.00 w/BBS wheels & Navigation

I also requested a trade-in value for my '06. Ouch. 40K miles hurts the value a lot. I think I'll just keep it a couple more years and see what comes out in 2010 .
