Doesn't surprise me one bit... Some states will hit new car sales harder with fees than other taxed areas.
Some states base registration costs on a depreciating percentage of MSRP, so it doesn't matter what you actually paid for the car because MSRP won't change.

IIRC... (This may have changed) In Colorado, you take 85% of MSRP for a car (75% for a truck)...

1st year is 2.1% of that...
2nd year is 1.5%...
3rd year is 0.9%..
4th year is 0.45%...
etc etc.

For instance, in CO... The base model MSRP is $35,640. x .85 = 30,294. 2.1% (x.021) of that is $636.

If I wait the maximum allowed 2 months with the temp tags, then I pay for those months along with my first year's registration payment. This means I'm paying for 14 months since registration covers the vehicle from the time of purchase. 2 months on the first year will add an additional $106, making my first registration payment approximately $742 for 14 months instead of $636 for 12mo. The 2nd year at 1.5% I'll be paying $454. 3rd year, $272. 4th year, $136. etc etc.

This may sound like a lot... But a lot of CO counties charge 5% or less sales tax. So, you're saving a couple % on the car tax and hundreds of dollars throughout the rest of the year on other taxed sales, but you make up for it when you buy a new car.

Ohio was similar. Registration for passenger cars was about $48/yr. I miss that, but not the 7% sales tax.

it's funny you call me a boy racer yet thanks to me being good at what I do I will be most likely going to a new M3 or S4, shows how much you know about me. However I would have stayed with subie if they didn't put out something that was garbage, and had lots of money set aside for mods. But atleast I will still have my '04 as a beater.

I'm sorry you feel that lighter weight and more power = boy-racer-mobile. The only thing I mentioned about looks was that they were plain. I want more power and less weight however they can get it. If that means removing all those options that morons like you overpay for from the dealership then I'm happy. If you could get a 350hp/350tq STi that weighed less than any previous STi for 32k OTD with no radio, no floor mats, no sound deadening, no NAV, you are telling me you wouldn't like that? Like I said before we don't want you here.

M3 or S4? What's the matter, you can't afford a Porsche? Since you're bragging about how much you make, what is it you do and how much do you make? Tell us.

Nope. I would not buy a stripped out Subaru like that for $32K.

I talked to several local (New England) dealerships yesterday. Two of them would not even discuss price due to not having them in stock. Another, would budge off of MSRP. I finally spoke to a friend who owns a local dealership. This was his price quote:

34,995 + 645 (destination charge) = 35,635

He stated that he would take $1685 off the top if the price. That makes the price before tax.....$33,955. I think it's a pretty good deal considering the car isn't even in the New England area yet. What do you guys think?

Awfully self contradictory, I wouldn't consider either (especially the heavy S4) as a "higher performance lightweight" option compared to the STi. Being a boy-racer has nothing to do with your profession, it has everything to do with your attitude. Go buy an expensive luxury car, and please continue to be the hypocrite by telling us we're not welcome here and that we're out of place wanting some similar nice features from this car.

I understand your points, but that type of car is meant for the RACE TRACK, not stop and go traffic or driving to and from work or taking the family out to dinner. For the VAST majority of us the car is a DAILY DRIVER. We have wives, girlfriends, families, children, etc. Yeah the car would be an out-of-the-box race car, but the market for it would be very very slim. If you want a noisy stripped down rattle box, go for it, the rest of us want something more livable. If you want a DD race car, then you are a boy-racer. Like I said, attitude.

I really don't understand why you're so put off by the new design. Seems the reviews are saying its faster and handles better than previous years. Wait til you see it stripped down and geared for TT races.

you fail at quoting and reading. I wanted a lighter faster STi. That wasn't provided so I am moving on. And I don't want a DD. I have a DD. My '04 is in a garage and driven on the weekends.

And so far by "the rest of us" I have seen two iwsti noobies saying that is what they want. I bet you if they made a 350hp/350tq lighter limited version with no options and a 35k OTD pricetag they would be near impossible to get.

And i see you are both watching this thread most likely spamming, refresh, sad for your age, don't you have a wife and kids to tend to?

Wow, now you're throwing insults. Nice. The fact that you refuse to discuss this in a mature manner discredits your arguments 100%. Looks like you replied pretty quickly, too...

I never said it wouldn't sell or that people wouldn't want it, but that its impractical and uncomfortable. Those two characteristics severely limit the target audience. I personally would LOVE to have a car just like you describe, but I can't justify it. If you're taste in cars is so much better than everyone else's, you're so good at what you do, that you can afford several cars, great, but don't use it as ammunition to rub in our faces.

This garbage has gone on long enough.
I vote to close this thread immediately.

and BTW, saying you want a "lighter and faster STi" then claiming you want a slower M3 or a slower and heavier S4... THAT is contradictory.

I was quoted $300 under MSRP for this one tonight. They will throw in 2 season tickets to Kirkwood resort and a iPod touch. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
