So you'd rather drive that Suzuki?

^that really doesnt look like the 07. 07 has more of an alpha romero front end with like a new3 series swooped headlight. As far as the racer kid look? i dont think its too much of an argument in saying a hatchback isnt exactly my idea of a mature adults business type vehicle. im not saying the new model isnt nice, and i can appreciate how some might see that it is a nice design. it has excellent design elements. The interior is not a night and day difference over my 07, navigation is a useless over rated feature that you will use if you are a real estate agent, pizza delivery boy, or on vacation. Most people who use the car for commute already know their route. I think navigation that costs 2k is kinda more than its worth honestly. Above it all how is it not lame that the most basic model doesnt even come with the bbs rims?

Now before anyone goes and hates on my comments keep in mind that i just bought my car last week and would have been willing to buy the 08 price wise. I sat in one and checked it out side by side with the 07. To me the 07 just looked better. The 08 was just in the first one at the dealership and unpurchased, but the white 07 just did it for me. the 08 is nice, but i still choose the sedan is all.

uhh, yeah the Nav will be used only for commuting to and from work. You must not get out much...

A lot of people like to "drive" their cars. Take it out for fun, drive across town to meet friends at a new restaraunt, hit the back mountain roads, take cross country road trips, visit new areas, etc, all without having to fumble through a road map, atlas, or having to call for directions...

As for the style, they're not trying to appeal to "businessmen" necessarily, just a wider audience than the 20-30 somethings with some extra cash to blow on a modern day hot rod. The prior models with the huge bulge and massive shopping cart wing definitely put more people off than turned them on. The key words for the new car are "refinement" and "subtlety". Not everyone who is a Subaru, WRC, or fast car enthusiast wants a car that screams HOLY GAWD LOOK AT MEEE!!!

The new model may not "do it" aesthetically for the stout sedan fanbase, or those who want something thats visually louder, but for the rest of us who want all the fun, more utility, but not all the attention, its a huge step forward.

maybe you didnt see my post above but i had a choice and i chose the 07 over the 08.

^ and for the post about driving to work why would you need nav on a route you take daily? Maybe its just me but nav is a cool way to tell people you have money and for them to see. Nav on a rental car maybe cool, but for me nav doesnt do much.

Anyways so everyone else can see it, i like the 08 dont think its a pile or anything. I am just saying that its not my style and I wouldnt rock it. I dont mean to get everyone all pissed at me cuz they just bought one or anything. I think they are cool but I did the whole 5 door with the bugeye and i was just ready to try a sedan this time around. I m sure i ll sell my current sti when another one i dig comes out. Performance wise the car has it all, i just dont like the exterior design.

if you think its 11k nicer than an '04-'07 then there is a dealer drooling for a sucker like you

the whole point of the '04s was it was a true raw sporty car. Now it is a overweight, dumbed-down for the masses, completely plain looking subaru. If you want the price to keep going up for those reasons plz go buy a g35 or something we don't want your kind here.

And you are all like aww your mad something new is out. Sorry no. If the '08 had unique looks and was still a raw sportty car without all the extra junk and same price as the previous models i would be the first in line to trade my '04 in.

If we had people complaining to subaru for more power, less weight, more raw car we might have gotten that, instead we got all these old boring farts complaining to subaru for better interior, less noise, and more unassuming looks. plz diaf

What, you speak for everyone? Including all of those other people who agree the new car is better? Actually it doesn't matter because you boy-racers are being replaced by people with some taste. Wherever will you go with your combat wings?

In other words, those who want the boy-racer-mobile are now falling in numbers. Fast & the Furious was in 2001 and is now out of fashion. Those who want a nicer car are in the majority. Why would Subaru want to keep making street racer cars when nobody wants them any more?

Excuse me but I don't remember the 04-07's selling for $25k brand new at invoice. You can't compare a base 04-07 STi to a loaded 08+ markup because it has more options that run the price up. Yes the older models have stock BBS, but they were 17's which is less expensive than taller and wider 18's. It didn't have the SI Drive system either. At invoice, the 04-07 is maybe 2-3K less AT BEST similarly equipped.

It IS still a raw and sporty car and it does have uniqie looks, I don't know what "all the extra junk" you're talking about. SI Drive doesn't add any extra weight but it does add tunability... I could do without the sound deadening but its not like its adding 500lbs to the weight of the car. The Nav, wow that weights about as much as any car stereo and its optional. As for looks, personally I can quickly spot it (and even the plainer looking WRX) a mile away, and that says something for its unique appearance. It won't attract as much attention as your 04, but not everyone wants that kind of attention. You're probably thinking, "just get an 04-07 and take the wing off" but then you'd be a hypocrite by suggesting we make it look like every other Subaru on the road.

Besides, it still has its undeniable roots and its still silly fast. If you think a flashy blue interior, massive hood bulge and hure rear wing are what make a car raw and sporty, then you sir should go hand out with the younger Honda crowd. They love that sh*t.

No, WE as Subaru enthusiats can offer only a suggestion, the manufacturers will do as they please to follow market trends and make cars sell. If they TRULY wanted to know our opinions, they'd open up to forums and feedback loops to build a "people's car". The only thing that will change their minds is whether or not the car sells. And it is. Personally (I owned an 04) I couldn't STAND the ugly interior!Maybe I should have entered the car in stock form at HIN I would have won.

Many of the changes made in the 08 model are functional and beneficial. The SI Drive can have huge benefits by being able to change tuned maps on the fly. If you think about it, it has more DCCD and stability adjustability, bigger brakes and better braking balance, shorter braking distances, less fender hangover, wider track, longer wheelbase, shorter body, more power, bigger intercooler, variable cam timing for both intake and exhaust, improved gear ratios, functional side-body ventillation, rear diffuser, less drag, etc. They didn't just say "lets make a boring shoebox and slap an STi sticker on the side..." No, they really put a LOT of throught into its performance.

Anyways,
If you're mad that its a hatch now, well suck it up because there's a LOT of us who DO like the new looks. Yeah its more subtle and not "OMG I HAVE A WING AND LOOK AT ME AND I AM TEH FASTARRR!!! GRRR!!!" but it has a pretty aggressive body shape. If you think the new STi is plain, consider the fact that the older STI body was EXACTLY the same the plain 'ol econobox Impreza. This is the first STI that they've truly departed with different body panels and substantial extra chassis reinforcement.

If softer suspension and sound deadening are your biggest argument, then you need to pull the stick out of your ass and get over yourself. Your voice only represents PART of the community. Instead of throwing insults and telling us "we don't want your kind here" and to go "die in a fire" maybe you show grow up a bit and really look into what makes the car different and why. As far as extra weight and sound deadening, well, many of us have had a bouncy hollow tin bucket and have kind of grown out of it for a daily driver. A lot of the people who can afford the STi want a car that they can both take to the track and out on a date. And speaking of which, last I checked, chicks rarely dig stiff suspension and a roll cage. One of the first things I plan to do (before AP, exhaust, and suspension/brake mods) is install an audiophile-level car stereo because I love music. I guess that puts me in the G35 crowd too, huh?

I think that when it comes down to it no one in these forums will ever realize the full potential of either car. they are both upgradeable and both have their own styling. I dont like the 5 door as much but it doesnt mean i think it is garbage either. I do think its lame they dont come stock with the bbs though. thats my biggest complaint.

I agree with that completely. I wish they didn't jack up the price either, but at least its less expensive without the BBS. The base 5-spoke wheels still offer a bigger contact patch than the 17x8 BBS wheels of old.

Invoice is about 36.7, right? Plus options, plus fees (which I think you got robbed a little on) that works out to be an OK price.

Registration in AZ is really $700?!? And the dealer doc fee for mine was like $40.

Arizona motor vehicle department

2) How much does it cost to title and register my vehicle?

It varies depending on the vehicle. There is a $4.00 title fee; an $8.00 registration fee; plus an air quality research fee of $1.50; and a vehicle license tax (VLT) assessed in place of a personal property tax charged by other states. There may also be a weight fee for commercial vehicles and other fees. The VLT is based on an assessed value of 60% of the manufacturer's base retail price reduced by 16.25% for each year since the vehicle was first registered in Arizona (15% before 8/1/98). Then, as of the Dec 1, 2000 reduction, the rate is calculated as $2.80 (new vehicles)/$2.89 (used vehicles) for each $100 of the assessed value. For example, for a new vehicle that costs $25,000, the first year assessed value would be $15,000 and the VLT would be $420.00. The second year the assessed value would be $12,562.50 and the VLT would be $363.06.
