Holy crap! It seems like some batch of factory brake pads for MY08 Sti are defective. Several owners had reported the same cracked brake pads problems so far.

Everyone who got the weired brake noise should definitely have your brake pads checked at your local
dealers. Your pads might be cracked as well.

or perhaps it was a result of handling during the shipping process? i can't imagine how unless it was by an impact bad enough to cause other problems. they wouldn't use the caliper area for tie downs. a reaction to salt air? temp changes+a dropped container?

it's more to do with the material of the pad. It's not like whole thing is broken in half. In my case the material of the pad that was breaking down hence showning cracks in the material. Didn't have a camera. Just my iphone and the pic didn't show up well.

BRAKE PAD BEDDING IN PROCEDURE

An update. My dealer is replacing my rotors as well they said it's grooved pretty bad. My first Subie and I'm liking the customer service of Subaru Canada already.

Nice StopTech BBK!

Did you upgrade the rear as well?
How much are they if you don't mind to share the price information.

PS: My front brake pads are replaced by my dealer under warranty, and the new ones don't make any noise.

There is no Rear Kit available yet. But with Subaru already increasing the OEM rear brakes from the previous models, I dont think its going to be needed. A good set of pads and rotors will be more then enough for what we are using this vehicle for.

As for price, pm me if you are interested. I want to keep this on topic.

So I have been having the same noises described here. I took the car to my dealer at 600 miles. They took the car into the shop and looked at the brakes. The service manager comes back and tells me that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the brakes. I didn't believe him. I've driven cars with brembos before and never have i heard anything like this.

Anyways I took the car to the dealer again today with 2200 miles on it. They pull the brakes apart and call me back to look at it. The same service manager takes me back to the car and tells me that I have been abusing the brakes and they won't cover it under warranty. But as a courtesy to me they would replace them this once. All four pads are cracked in half and they say that the rotors have been overheated.

2200 miles and all four pads are cracked and automatically i've been abusing the brakes. I'm going to call subaru customer service on monday morning about this.

That's pretty ballsy of them to say after you brought it in after 600 and they said nothing. You were obviously aware of an issue. SOA should take care of you, and I imagine they will.

Well the dealer said that subaru had denied the warranty claim. The dealer made me sign a form saying that if it was to happen again, I would be responsible to pay for it. Subaru customer service was already closed and it was either sign the paper or pay to have them put new pads in.

I'm hella pissed off about the whole thing right now. Especially cause the dude called me out and said that i was abusing the brakes because they were cracked.

He said that because it was an sti they had to call the district manager and ask him about replacing everything under warranty.

They did turn the rotors and replace the pads but the treatment I got both times I brought in my brand new car. And then having to sign a paper saying that if I abuse the brakes again I will have to pay for it.

Just stupid.
