Default New NOISES, Rear Seats

I have tracked down the culprit I think.
The rear seat backs make noises when going over small little bumps.
If I put the seats down, no noise.

It seems like the lower pivot bushing/rod on the outside of the seat is a bit loose or has a lot of slop. I can grab the seat back and move it around and replicate the noise. I then shuvved my hand in between the plastic cover and the seat and held the lower pivot and did the same movement and felt the slop.

Have yet to hit the dealer up yet.

Anyone else seen/heard this yet?

Lately, I have been keeping the seats down to avoid it.
I truly hate little noises that should not be there!!

I had a similar problem...when I extend the thingy that covers what is in the hatch area (sorry for being so technical ) the problem goes away...I think it just that cover bouncing and hitting something when unsecured (non-extended)

Is this your first STI?

If it is, it may also be your last, and before too long... .

I've owned two Subaru 5 door vehicles prior to this one.
02 WRX Wagon
04 Forester 2.5XT, even on 650/550 springs!!!

No similar noises. Hence, the "it should not be there" comment.

I had a pressure creak coming from the passenger's side rear and found that if I put a piece of thick plastic sheeting (a thick drop cloth I had back there from transporting race wheels) over the seat latch before closing it the sound completely stops. I don't know if it was originating from the latch area or hinge area, but putting something there to tighten up connection stopped it for me. I'm going to do something more permanent soon.

I also had a creaking noise coming from the rear when i went over bumps. I took out the trunk cover and put it back in, and the noise went away

I have a second rear net connected just behind the rear seats and I use the seat mount loops to secure the top hooks of the net (Didnt want to drill into my car). You kind of have to jam it back to get the seat to latch, but perhaps this is why I dont hear the noise - my rear seats have no slop.

I've got the same rattle from the rear seats - I was thinking it was the latch mechanisms, as they feel like they've got a lot of play in them. When I remember, I'm planning to put some plastic around them to see if it fixes the issue.

I tried sliding the tire cover panel forward, that quieted the drivers side.
Pass. side still noisy.

I put some material around the upper latch point (pass side) and it seemed to do the trick.

Good tips guys

I've been having the same issues with the rear seat noises and it has been driving me nuts.

I ended up wrapping a short length of black electrical tape around the u-shaped latch bars that the back seats actually connect to.

So far so good, no noises what so ever.

you guys may also want to check one area in the trunk. I found bolts that were only FINGER tight! WTF!

In this picture, see the black metal shelf that my wrench is sitting on? The bolts that hold it on were all loose. Check them because they are close to the rear seats and the metal did make noise before I tightened mine.
