Default 08 STI vs 07 STi steering rack

AFAIK, the 08 STI comes with the same 15:1 steering rack that is equipped in the 06-07 cars?

It doesn't seem so during my test drive. The 08 has about 2.7 turns lock to lock as compared to 2.5 turns lock to lock on the 07.

Sure... same ratio, different rack. I assume this means the turning circle of the 08 is the same or smaller than before despite the longer wheelbase.

I think it turns tighter than my 04 STI. One among other reasons to get the STi over the evo.

oh, thats something new to me. didn't know its possible, i always thought the quicker the ratio, the less turns lock to lock.

If it turns tighter than your 04 STI, can you explain what that would be a reason to get an STI over an EVO? Your rationale is not exactly crystal clear.

Evo has a FWD based transmission so it tends to understeer a little more under throttle. that is all i know.

Wow....thanks Jeff.

I ran a searched and found that from 04-08 STIs, all came with 15:1 ratio racks, which means the number of locks to lock doesn't exactly determine the ratio?

Does anyone know if the JDM racks from 07 cars fit the RHD 08s? I'm guessing it should bolt right on, but what about the DCCD's sensors compatibility and stuff?

I autoxed an '08 STI last week and it felt the same in regards to steering quickness as the '07-'04.

In my experience a ratio change or just a few 10ths are hard to feel, although I noticed the 13.3:1 to 13.1:1 change in Evo X to IX right away.

...and my '04 STi is 1.8 turns lock-to-lock thanks to a new 11.5:1 q-rack.
